Is that not the case with most DJs who own their own record labels?
| quote: | | In Response to #3: GDJB focuses more on the more prog trance tunes with guest trance DJs, you will not hear the latest Filo & Peri, Kyau Vs Albert, Solid Globe, etc release on GDJB unless they are played by a guest. |
Good point, but at the same time, who says we need radio shows? I feel that radio shows are not needed, except for the occasional one-hour mix from a DJ, or a broadcast of an event. Putting weekly radio shows on the air, as I previously mentioned, brings the industry down with generic, over-used sounds that do nothing to push the scene forward.
| quote: | | In Response to #4: No Armin isnt the only one who gets new music, but he was a platform for the new music to be heard in a timely manner. Most of the DJs dont play all new music back to back, because that would not work in a club. |
The fact is that DJs have always received and will continue to receive promos from aspiring producers. DJs don't whore old tracks like they're the greatest thing, in fact I rarely ever see a pre-2004 track in any DJ's tracklist by browsing through the tracklist forum. DJs will always continue to play the newer tunes.
And new music back-to-back doesn't work in a club? Was that not what ASOT was putting a demand on? Every ASOT fan wanted to hear new tunes in a club and because they were in the majority, it was what worked.
| quote: | | In Response to #5: You do not know the econimics of the trance music industry, most of the guys are doing remixes for trade. You remix my tune I remix yours. There is no golden goose, it is all done for the love of music. |
Sure, maybe in your eyes. Hell, I would love it if that were the case, but the sad truth is that it isn't. You can't sit there and tell me that remixes of classic tunes are not done for money.
Take, for example, Silence 2004. Delerium said that there need not be anymore remixes of the track, yet Nettwerk owns the rights to the track and hired producers to remix it anyway. That is the case with many of the horrid 2003-2005 remixes.
| quote: | | And Waht major labels are you speaking of? Armada? Anjuna? Blackhole? Common, these labels only sell a few thousand copies of a single. Thats a far cry from the days of selling 10,000. |
I'm speaking of the industry as a whole, not as individual labels. Take a look at all of the "Top Tunes of 2004" and tell me that they don't sound the same; build-up, breakdown, similar synths. 98% of ASOT-aired material was the same, and record labels began to accept that. And you cannot look at remixes such as C Sharp 2005, Viola 2005, Affinity 2005, and many others, and tell me that they were great remixes that were just as good as, if not better than, the classics that were produced years ago. They sound the same as every other tune out there right now, and provide absolutely nothing special.
That, to me, is proof that the industry lowered it's standards because the ASOT-kiddies began to accept and whore mediocrity.
| quote: | | You want to know why the trance scene is in the shits, its because of the internet. There is no money to be made by selling 1000 copies of something, so all the talented artists have left the genre and gone on to produce music that is more profitable. Look at BT as a perfect example. He wants to be Moby so bad. Imagine if we still had someone like him making trance. How inspiring would that be for the bedroom producers? Bottom line is people need to survive and make a living. All of the talented REAL musicians have left. Plain and simple. Keep dreaming that trance is going to go back to the sounds the early days. Those artists have moved on with their lives. |
This may be just me speaking here, but producers should not rely on producing as their main source of income (unless, of course, you're a top DJ). They shouldn't rely on it for any income, in my personal opinion and I'd imagine yours as well, because after all, "it is all done for the love of music." They should rely on producing as something for fun. Once someone relies on producing as a primary source of income, they realize that the popular mass will accept a certain degree of mediocrity and thus the producers will bring themselves down to that level rather than pushing the bar forward.
I'm not saying that Trance will revert back to the "early days." I'm saying that, without the commercialization that ASOT gave the genre, Trance will begin to improve. We don't need older artists to still produce Trance in order for new producers to be inspired. Many of the timeless classics are an inspiration to this day. I would love to produce, and although many of the producers who helped shape the scene do not produce anymore, I find myself constantly inspired by the works they created in the past. The past will always have an influence on us.

5.) Now, how does this benefit the scene? For starters, did you know that Armin has said that even he isn't fond of some of the tunes he played on ASOT? Yeah, that's right. And you know what that means? The show was run by major labels in it for a quick buck.
|
What that means he gave everyone a chance plaing their tunes even if he didn't like it.
What that means he made "SO MUCH" money for the mysterious labels that they decided to cancel ASOT, yea right, a real money making machine, please don't post such nonsense.
Real money in industry is in
1. gigs
2. compilations
3. artist CD
Vinyls just cover costs, now let me ask you how many compilations Armin made for other labels recently? None.
He's making his own on Armada, while you might call it "all the same and cheese" it's what some of us like, thank you very much.
No it's not the alpha and omega of trance, but it's what we like I repeat.
You don't see me coming to your threads and bashing stuff you like do you?
I wish you people would just leave ASOT alone, it'll come back anyway.
