Agreed... streetcars are inefficient unless they have their own seperate tracks that dont interfere with traffic like in Amsterdam.

You are blind, seriously. Yes, you gain the "happiness" (whatever measure of utility you want to use) of 30 minutes of extra sleep, but you still have to balance that cost with the cost of owning an automobile (i'm assuming that's the mode of transportation you are figuring).

ok i can see time = happiness, now would you trade happiness for money?
like i dont know how else to explain it. its an economics concept its not meant to be understood literally, altho it is very useful applying it in your daily life.

but dude, if you think time = money is bad, wait till you find out that life = money too

I would not trade happiness for money.

However, I am fully aware of the relationship between time/life and money/value whathaveyou. No explanation necessary.

so looks like this is going to happen?

meh...personally I could care less

but...a solution to this nonsense. Various levels of gov't need to step up and adequately fund the TTC...pour some REAL money into improving our transit system.

THEN deem the TTC an "essential service" and legally bar them from striking. teachers should be put in the same boat. it's bullshit that the TTC and school boards just threaten to strike and cripple the city after every goddamn contract runs out, resulting in parents scrambling to find daycare, kids losing out on education, people unable to get to work, etc.

*flame suit on* (but I don't care, those two areas ARE essential services for the smooth operation of our city...and I do agree that this work deserves to be compensated as such.)

I agree. Those are essential services like the paramedics. It pisses me off that all these unions have our city by the balls. Strike whenever it pleases them and put us in crazy situations. It's just not fair!!

I know of people who graduated from UofT with a degree and working for much less than that and they're crying...cry me a river.

This thread makes me sick....... Who are you guys??? TTC employees do a lot more than "Just drive a BUS", streetcar or subway. These people have control of your lives on a daily basis. Not only do these people maintain control while driving your sorry ass’s all across the city, but they also have the responsibility to deal with the many crazy psychopaths that come on and off the TTC everyday.

Many TTC workers do have an education and they have still chosen to work for the TTC because it is a service to the city. To all your U of T friends who are working for less money .......Maybe they should apply for the TTC, but chances are they wouldn't get it cause you can't learn all you need to know by reading books. Maybe if you had a little more life experience you would know that having a degree doesn't entitle you to have a good job and make good money.

I feel that the TTC employees do a great job. They do their best to keep you safe and protect you from many of the dangers in the city. Weather you are on a bus, streetcar or subway these people are doing their best to make sure you arrive at your destination safe and in one piece.

If garbage collectors are entitled to making good money than the TTC employees deserve a lot more because the trash they pick up talks!!!!

Crush the union.

Public services are there to serve the public, not for the sake of creating union jobs.
