Then again, explain to me why when im overseas people are soooo much nicer to me whether its a girl who wants to date me or whether its a complete stranger or a bunch of guys that want to go clubbing? Why is it that when i pull my (comparatively mild) canadian ways on them they think im a prick and yet it works here perfectly fine?

I dont think its human nature at all.

Only 4 days? I wait a week!

Being a nice guy is fine and all, but you can't be a pushover either. Girls are attracted to jerks and bad-boys because they are confident and respect themselves, too many nice guys these days have no self-esteem and will do anything a woman asks, which is no way to build respect.

Behold, my arse.

I don't know man...possibly it's cause you were more or less a tourist and there could be so many reasons. I'm sure that when people come here they are being treated nicely as well...most people that come for the first time to canada think so highly of it but then after living here for a while change their mind...it's quite different when you travel and actually live somewhere...

But the fact of the matter is there's nothing wrong with being nice but you have to know how to be tough, get what you want, and when to put your foot down and be an asshole. Being nice won't get you anywhere in this life (and not just in canada but anywhere). Look at all the super successful people in the world...I guarantee you that none of them got to where they are by being nice.

You have to be tough otherwise you can't survive - survival of the fittest

Edit

You have to be tough because if you're not someone else will be and while you are busy being nice someone else will be moving ahead of you

and sorry about the long essay there.

the tourist thing is a possibility but i actually took the time to live and get to know people in some those places and these people treated everyone the same, not just me.

And a lot of tourists that i have met here have asked me what was up with people here, especially the girls. I used to spend a lot of time at the global village backpackers and the complaints were usually the same. ie) why is everyone so afraid of everyone else around here? (interesting how they saw it)

There is DEFINITELY such a thing as TOO NICE! and at the end of the day it's not worth it...

There IS a thing as being too nice however there's nothing wrong with it. As long as it's being directed towards the right person. If it's being directed to everybody you date and that person is not worth it and they're using that to step on you and you do nothing about it then it's fucked up and stupid. I've been accused of being "too nice" (what a shock there).

Let me guess...this was somewhere in south america where people didn't really have much money and were happy with what they have and their life...right?

Well that's exactly what I meant...they are too nice to everyone and some people they shouldn't be nice too cause these "other" people aren't appreciative of that and are assholes themselves...

*EDIT*

They are trying to be nice to everyone and these people don't appreciate or care about it and these people don't see it...

Hmmm... I'm finding the cynicism (sp?) here a little startling!

"You have to be tough"

"Nobody likes a guy who does EVERYTHING you want him to..."

So why even ask?

Maybe I'm a hopeless romantic, but I always thought that love meant doing the little things, trying everything you can to make the other person happy/comfortable... if that means driving over in the middle of the night because her Dog is sick, or being a shoulder to cry on even though you want to watch the hockey game... so be it...

I guess it's a matter of what you're looking for in a mate/partner... while I agree there is a point where it's possible to be taken advantage of, why wouldn't I do the little things?

it was south america and actually the people i met there were from all walks. Some were stinking rich (richer than any of us will ever be) and some were piss poor. They all seemed to generally be the same when it came to dealing with people, expecially in a social setting.

There's nothing wrong with that at all but now you're talking more about a relationship aspect here...love...I'm talking more about every day life and just random niceness to other people...and while we're on the subject as Skipper pointed out here...many girls don't like that kind of behaiour and are actually turned off by the guys that would drive in the middle of the night to see the sick dog or whatever she has...

Well, so be it. But I'm a sissy who can live with himself, and sleep well at night knowing that I've done everything I can to improve the lives of the people around me.

Go Sissies!
