Myself, I absolutely agree that public schools should not hold celebrations for Christmas and Easter. Public schools, as a part of the state, should be wholey secular in all regards. Additionally, there should be no celebration of such holidays in the workplace unless you work for an organization that is clearly identified as a religious organization. I don't think this way because I am worried that someone may be offended (most people believe that I am the most offencive person they know) but rather to prevent people from feeling out of place or preasured to adopt the beliefs of the majority. If your entire workplace is celebrating Christmas and you abstain because you do not believe that Jesus is the massia then you set yourself apart from everyone else. An employer should never create such a situation.

Remember, the most important task of any state in the maintenance of order is to protect the rights of the minority. If the rights of the minority are not protected then mob rule will take hold.

Public school celebrates Christmas and Easter?
No way.

Well private schools do celebrate these but I don't think kids went to it bc of the religious preference (lots of rich Arabs and chinese there too). Most went to private bc the education level was much better.

You are correct, not all persons attending private schools do so for the religious education (assuming that it is a denomonational school), however, they have elected to send their child to that school while knowing that there is a religious element to the educational program. There is no such election with public school. If religion is taught in public school then in order to opt out of this religious education you would have to either homeschool your child or find a private school of a different religion or no religion. In this way, having religious education in public school forces parents to either accept in part the religion taught or pay a premium to avoid the religious education. Now, I don't think that Christmas and Easter are being celebrated in any way that would create much of a problem for most reasonable people, however, anything that is a religious celebration does not belong within the confinds of a state institution.

Thanks hun!! I am really excited!! hehe I just found out that living in the Village is about $2000-$12,000 a month, so I may be heading towards Brooklyn...LOL Oh well, there is only a bridge standing in my way!! Thanks zookeeper, any tips will be helpful!!

I want to also respond to someone in the earlier part of the thread saying that Americans put down their own success....I find this to be true in a lot of Americans, and I find it really disturbing....We should all be proud of any successes and hard work that we put into our lives...some say we are lucky, but I think that we have all worked really hard to get where we are today!! (Did I get into NYU and Columbia by sitting on my ass? No. Did my parents pay for ANY of my schooling? NO, they didn't pay for a single cent!) I have done it all myself, and most of have done it by ourselves (we live in a society that expects us to get what we deserve!)

So us Americans really need to stop being embarrased of our own success and instead we should embrace it.
