REGIONS, not provinces. HUGE difference.

I want each province to have the same number of senators, but that's not party policy.

They'll "consider" it. HOWEVER, motions to spell out actual policy on those issues were defeated on the convention floor!

The Lieberals refused to separate out the Atlantic Accord and other items that the CPC supports.

This is what concerns me. I hope the additional spending does not pass - I beleive it to possibly have serious negative consequences on our economic prosperity moving forward.

Unrelated: An elected Sentate is a big mistake. It is important to have Senate oversight whereby Senators can feel free to vote in the long-term best interest of the country without fear of electoral reprisal.

Yes... because it's important that the 100,000 or so people in Prince Edward Island have the same say and ability to hold up / stop legislation as the 12 million or so in Ontario. I'd certainly take regional balance over provincial equity any day! If all provinces were equal, Atlantic Canada would have nearly half of the senators! (That being said, I still prefer the Senate the way it is today.)

...and I don't care whether it's official policy or only under "consideration". That means they're leaning in the direction... and even if actual motions were defeated on the floor, the fact that a motion saying they'll "consider" it passed means it's ripe for discussion again at some point in the future.

So because there is one or two elements out of the entire budget that is otherwise "bad" that they like, that's reason to vote for the entire package?

I'm pretty sure the REAL reason is because they know the MPs they have in Newfoundland will have their asses kicked if the current government goes down at the hands of the CPC and Atlantic Canada loses the sweetheart deals they negotiated.

Speaking of which, if you're against equalization (which is essentially what those offshore oil revenue deals were about... allowing them to keep the full revenue rather than offsetting the other equalization payments they already receive), shouldn't you be demanding the party vote down both budget bills?

Absolutely! Otherwise Ontario and Quebec run the entire country.

I thought you were in favour of minority rights?

And rightly so! Remember, each province is sovereign, with its own Lieutenant-Governor and Parliament... a mini-country.. and they need to be represented in the federal government.

Quite the opposite. The fact that the grassroots rejected it outright means that the party can't adopt it as policy or in the platform. The only way for it to become policy is at the next convention.

Yeah it's pretty sad that certain parts of the country will suckle the federal Lieberal teet, even though it's ruining the country as a whole.

As to the Atlantic Accord, although it's not perfect, it allows the provinces to keep their resource revenue, as intended in the constitution. In other words, they're getting back what they already own. It's not equalization. Equalization is a socialist wealth redistribution scheme that's been bastardized by brokerage parties to curry favour. It either needs to be scaled back dramatically to what it was originally intended to do, or scrapped.

Certainly the NDP amendment portion has to be defeated.

As a practical matter, there may not be the votes to defeat the first bill. If the CPC tried to tried to defeat the government on it, and failed, it would be an embarrassment - the government would see it as a vote of confidence. As stated before, the Atlantic Accord should be passed, and if it didn't, there'd be hell to pay. It's Martin that put the country in this situation - he could have separated it.

There's more support for defeating the NDP portion than the main portion. That's where the CPC should chose to do battle.

Its not sexist to call stockwell day or joe clark old dinosaurs but it's sexist to call stronach a dipstick? As for the political whores comment, i do think that crossed the line a little but i think it was probably taken from the famous line by American humourist P.J. O'Rourke who famously described politics as a "parliament of whores," He was of course reffering to men, not women at the time.

Personal attacks are very common in politics. Has anyone ever seen a political cartoon? Screaming sexism here is nothing more than their own brand of smear tactics and im not buying it.

They called her a prosititute and a whore...so thats sexist ok so shut the fuck up buddy. Men control everything and as soon as a woman does something shes a whore...most of the men in parliment are fat, white, balding, small dicked men...but thats not sexist because its true.

Based on your posts, it seems that you're the one that's racist and sexist.
