actually i will.. the dj won't be able to beatmatch properly if the first 2½ bars are missing from the track. it would still be possible but it would mean the dj now have to find the start of the next 4x4 bars so the mix won't be a complete mess.
Since most progressive and trance tracks are stretched out for lightyears, especially intros and outros, I don't think it'll be a problem for a proper DJ. With techno / minimal, tracks are mostly structured in such a way that it's no problem at all to get into it a few beats later either.
Slightly more on topic, I still don't see why everybody gets their panties in a bunch about getting the newest tracks asap. There are so many more not so recent goodies out there that are far more worth getting. You can stand out as a DJ just as well by playing those tunes, instead of 'unreleased' stuff everybody will be playing the next week anyway. Personally, I love hearing a DJ play an older tune (not one that's been played to death, of course) that's special to him, and should be to the crowd he's playing for (in terms of bringing back memories and evoking reactions / emotions). F*ck being upfront, start getting personal.

Interesting topic indeed.
Here are my thoughts on leaking.
I don't appreciate rippers trying to get reputation in the "scene" by releasing up and coming artist's work. That is just wrong.
Also, I don't appreciate big time DJ/Producer who kept their stuff for anywhere from 2-3 years then release it. Cough Cough PVD for example. If the crowd likes it then release it damn it.
A famous quote went something like... 'being privy to exclusive material is motive enough for one to go out and spread it'. You can say what you want when you're not in the position, but most people get an ego trip off being the guy with the latest tracks and immediately rush off the share it with others. Ultimately the fault lies upon the artist or whoever in the label is naive enough to entrust the material outside the studio walls.

And I do think that an awful lot of these rippers can be cut off by advanced digital watermarking of tracks.
Fact#1-there are way too many sites, programs, P2P, seeders, leechers, out there to stop the movement.
Fact#2-The Majority of the EDM community don't want to spend too much money on all the releases out there (vinyls are not cheap)
This debate has been going on for a long time. Yet the fact is its wrong to leak, share and fuck over the producer/label and all the people who worked so hard to get it released. The only way I could see coming to a full stop if the government stepped in and shut the whole net down and we all know that's not going to happen.

More labels should do paid digital downloads. €1.60 equivalent from beatport is perfectly reasonable for a track. All labels should provide tracks for paid download.

i'm starting to agree with this, although first i was against paid downloads. but they should make old tunes available too. and they should make playing legal downloaded tracks legal. as it's illegal to play out paid or not downloaded tunes as dj in finland at least (i think there's a similar law in uk too, dunno about other countries though).

PS: turn your sarcasm detector back on asshat, if the smiley didn't give away the sarcasm or it did and you still felt like putting in your two cents then you're an idiot.

I think a lot of old stuff is being made available, but some record companies need a kick up the arse when it comes to this (read: Vandit etc )
yeah, it's very fucking stupid. and just yesterday them made it illegal to rip a copyprotected cd here in finland too. i have maybe about 50 or so copyprotected cds. i've ripped them all already, but if my hdd ever crashes and i'll rip them again, i could go to jail even!!!!!
that's like one of the gayest things i've ever heard. these kind of laws in finland are really fucked up. there's some fishy business going on there i'm pretty sure as it's 2 organisations that are getting money off everything that has anything to do with music at all and all the laws are just very well suited to them and not the consumers! FUCKERS the whole bunch of them i say, FUCKERS!!!!
