If none of these guys do it for you, I don't know what will.

Oh, the irony! Most of these artists have never produced trance or stopped producing trance.

I agree with most of your assesments here (Benz & MD mcprog? HAHA). But all of these artists have wandered into trance a few times with wonderful results.

There are better examples, the list was completely off the top. Can't argue with the others on there either.

bah! just because the trance now doesn't sound like your specific sub-genre acidy trance of the 'early-nineties' doesn't mean it's not trance!

If you have to think long and hard about good trance producers, doesn't that tell you anything about the state of the scene?

Pick almost any track from a Digweed set, and most house fans will praise it as a worthy representative of the house genre. Not the case with Tiesto's, Ferry's, or AvB's sets.

From what i've heard this year, even from what i heard last year, trance hasnt been that great. as for progressive, i think it's really coming into it's own. i don't even think it's done growing. the best for progessive is yet to come. great stuff.

fark yes!!
I think this is the style of trance people are referring to when they complainin about it "not being like the old days"

also add..

early React
Some of the stuff on Noom

It had the euphoric feeling of what todays uplifing does to you, but a much deeper and less predictable structure. It didn't plod along and wasnt as serious or dark as the prog of today and it wasnt a complete sonic mindfuck like the psy of today. Somehow it had early elements of all these and managed to pull it off flawlessly. Artists didnt all sound the same and more importantly it didnt abuse supersaws or follow a formula so strict that breakdowns were happening at 2.20 in every track.

I dont want to sound like I'm slagging it off, because I still like some of todays melodic trance and there are some excellent producers out there. It just seems there is a big gap between that end of trance and the harder/darker stuff for some reason. Trance producers just dont seem to be pushing that aspect of trance any more. My bet is that the push back towards that style of sound (and it will happen in time) will come from prog and psy producers anyway and not the so called current 'trance' genre.
