His mixing skills aren't good... he really, really needs to work on that. But live you don't exactly care... for the basses are so loud and powerful you hardly hear it; i also go party to have a good time, not for listening every crossover the dj does.
Are all these people here critisizing Tiësto going to a party just to hear the dj's transitions ? Well that's pathetic. Ok, i notice them too sometimes; but I wouldn't really let it ruin my night; and that's the point people here dont want to believe, cause they're stubborn.

I'm one of those people who've never heard Tiesto alive, simply because I can't stand even more than usual sweaty rubbing fest in a sardine can, and I'm not going to pay 60+ bucks on something like that.
Of course if you heard any DJ live, he/she usually sounds better. On the other hand, I believe that a PRO DJ should always sound good, or at least give maximum effort. Tiesto is not the only one guilty of this, but he does stand out due to his popularity. Whether it's a 6hr set at a club or one hr guestset for a radio show, a DJ should be showcasing his skill as a DJ.
I do not believe a lot of us Tiesto critics say Tiesto sucks as a DJ because he makes occassional mistakes; it is because he constantly and consistently trainwreck left right and centre. (Although he is slightly improving)
Tiesto entertains a lot of people. The level of effort Tiesto puts in may be fine for those who are satisfied with average DJing and McTrance tunes, but not for the rest of us.

I don't know what kind of trance you guys like... but Tiësto's tracklisting is way more interesting than Armin's Or PvD's...
And for this matter i'm only comparing the 'top jocks'
Personally I love to listen to sets of lesser known dj's, so i'm far from a tiësto worshipper. I dont know why MichaelBoogerd! says his fans don't listen to many other dj's.
Another problem is that many of the americans here tend to know everything about trance, while they just don't.
You guys don't have weekly or monthly trance parties there in your neighbourhood; I'm constatly going to them... trance energy; mysteryland, illusion nights, dj's from goskitchen comin' here... It's all around me in 3h driving.
My live experience with trance is probably way ahead of the one of the average american trance listener, so stop listening to sets like a pathetic fool and then judging them by some technical aspects that are only disturbing when you focus on it... go sniff something of the live atmosphere first.
There's stuff enough to critisize topjocks; but instead of doing so you should respect all of them and all what they've done for trance. Bashing is just stupid; all those guys answering in a thread like "Pvd rules, end of story / tiësto sucks, that's all" should get an instant ban IMO. They make discussions impossible.
I'm really glad this thread is taken a bit more serious than the average one.
Just my two cents

from my personal experience (been to a hell of lot of dance events, clubs in both the UK and Europe) the majority (note not all) tiesto fans do seem to put him on a pedistal so high up they will completely ignore other djs. For example two guys i know went to Global Gathering (£50 a ticket) purely to see Tiesto, they saw about 10mins of PvD but said it was shit and left. There was so many others acts they co0uld have seen but no instead they were incredibably blinkered. This is something i have witnessed time and time again often with Tiesto although some people are like that with other djs.
And also, if you look at the upcoming events in NYTA, FLTA or CATA you will notice they have just as many events as London, Amsterdam or any European city.

I reckon he does get too much of a hard time here. No doubt the same will happen to PVD just because he's labelled as #1
