dont set the time as 2 days, make it more. A month sounds like a good time. We are talking about a 2nd Mod right? or a whole new one?

You bring up a good point Bry...

It'd be nice to have someone around just to keep this place nice and neat, and up to date.

On another note... nobody wants me to be mod?

I feel unloved.

hey everyone,

thanx for all the positive feedback and actually, all the feedback-- cuz even the ones against having a mod have made us consider even more closely the reasons why it would be beneficial to have one.

also, i just wanted to reiterate this statement: having a mod will not imply policing in the slightest: we love our freedom, a mod would never wanna take that away.

in addition, i'd just like to add that if brian or i were to become mod, we would be a representative of the collective NYTA group. as mod(s), we will not pursue big decisions/actions without consulting/getting feedback from the NYTAs unless warranted in extreme cases (ie reporting mr. marak or the utterly stupid white supremacist dingleberry that decides to make threads here occassionally).. rather, i like the idea of representing a democracy in and through polls or whatever ideas/comments spring up and branch out in various threads. im not saying that everyone will agree on the decisions we make but as long as gather input to our ideas and propose/represent ideas from other and have feedback from our members, then we are functioning as the democracy that we already are.

whoops yea, i was a lil confoozled.

Is it pertinent that we have a NYTA mod before any improvements can be made around here?

considering brian and my stance on the whole debate, we say yes: because it's more efficient to have one of our own NYTAs helping run the section, creating subforums, organizing promotions of various edm nights, updating, etc etc rather than have an NYTA (or multiple NYTAs) running from mod to mod...bc then have those mods that received whatever request discuss that request with other mods (and subsequently become confused from the multiple requests) and put the matter aside. this has happened many times before.

but i digress... so i insist: why can't we take care of ourselves, we're mature enough, aren't we? once again, we're not suggesting this HUGE revamp/facelift to the point you will not recognize your favorite NYTA ever again.. yan, i love nyta too. that doesn't mean i dont think they can't be small improvements here and there, arrangements/meetups between NYTAs BY NYTAs, etc.. it's our section, so why do we need someone else to do our own business rather than have someone who already knows this place, knows its people, its general attitude and beliefs on things to take care of its needs/wants??

quote:
If we are to believe that NYTA is a collective work in progress, how come we couldn't better this subforum ourselves? Have you guys tried to shape this place up with various other topics/events/meetings?

because our 'collective' efforts in getting things done can't happen without a mod in place to see the needs as it happens and respond to the needs when requested. for example, a while back someone PM'd a mod out of the blue with "can we have a DCTA"...the mod, from somewhere in europe i believe, didn't respond or just said no.. why? cuz he doesn't know the needs of this section and it takes time and effort to get a poll going (nonethless formulated by a non-american ta) about how many people want a DCTA section.. i mean, who but us gives a shit about creating a damn subforum about DCTAs? yet decisions like these aren't easily just executed by mods cuz they have to have good reasoning, not just some random PM from some random TA... so they just ignore the request. by brian or myself Know how much of a thriving nightlife and how many DCTA members are present here and wouldn't blink an eye to creating subforums for them. we know the deal cuz we spend time here.

in summary: nyta is like the lost world.. everyone knows we're here but we do ok for ourselves so no one really bothers with us unless we really really need em (ie simon lockin down some really inappropriate threads...the guy can't be everywhere at once, nevermind he's in a different time zone)... u know how the old saying goes.. if you wanna get something done, ya gotta do it urself. we're trying to help ourselves...why do we have to rely on outside sources to get things done, especially when they are so seemingly simple to (ie, create a subforum for DCTAs) but they dont get done because other mods simply aren't part of the NYTA community and cannot see the dire need and deem the need frivolous/unnecessary and a preampt to a flood of requests that might lead to chaos in this already calm/boring forum??

edit: i think brian and i can both say we try our darndest to make cool things happen on and off the boards, Through the boards, etc... like the snowboarding, like the meetups, etc. we tired of relying on other people to get shit done though!! (sorry for repeating myself...) there's a serious lack of unity compared to many other forums.. check out the TOTA bbq they did this yr.. MASSIVE.. brian and i have both been members for a substantial amount of time on this board and we didn't just wake up one day and say "yep, i think we need a mod." of course not! it's been an ongoing issue for literally, what, 2 years now? mulling and mulling over it, we came to the conclusion that we best take matters in our own hands to please our people. and yes, i do think we both have done our share in helping the scene and helping NYTA be a better place. but we can't do it if it means constantly running through other mods to get shit done.

quote:

Honestly... I think NYTA is already a great place that keeps things real. Once in a while there's a snowboarding trip or a movie screening meetup. We always meet up at music events and then chat with each other about our nights. Those are just a few examples of why we're so composed and up-to-date with one another. You get what I'm saying?

couldn't agree more.

Because it's not our website. Swamper chose the other mods after much deliberation. They're hear to help everyone and anyone.

Question to all readers: Have you ever PMed a current mod so as to get help doing whatever it is your request had in mind? Furthermore, did they help you out, question-free?

Simply interested, is all.

This entire scenario doesn't really help back up why it is important to have a hometown mod. If you can explain to one of the major mods why you'd be looking for your own subforum and simply have a few of those users interested in it send in a PM to voice themselves, the situation would be resolved shortly... That is, after deliberation with the guy that owns this website. Do you honestly think that if one of us is awarded modship that we could basically do anything we want to change the section? I really doubt it considering Swamper has the last word.

I'm all for a hometown mod but I honestly don't see much change in the future for NYTA. I, honestly, have yet to hear any great ideas for changing this place.

I've voiced my opinions. There's no need for me to continue. Thank you for the opportunity to debate,Dani. It was good.

I think your expectations of a mod are exactly what other people will be upset about if a mod was in place. You say you haven't heard any great ideas for "changing" this place. Things won't change, they'd just be cleaned up. We have 2 polls for Who you are/Where you live, if you didn't know this, before we had 3 threads like that. I asked redeye to atleast break it into 2 threads (approximately 3yrs ago). Then we had the PPR which got stickied and ultimately locked and closed.

Now I'm sorry, I couldn't be arsed to ask a mod from a different forum to "clean up the place to my liking" nor could I ask a mod to come facilitate our section to help decide collectively how to clean up our section. It's something that has to evolve over time as a progression. I think with all these new mod re-election threads everyone's expectations has risen thinking oh we might have a new mod i can't wait for things to change then i can say Yes i like it, No I hate it. As rapid as change as we want it, we want to make sure it's something that's crafted carefully, lead by example, and supportive nonetheless. The transitional period means that we'd take things slowly inconsideration of those who might be opposed to quick change. I know myself, quick change can be a bit intimidating, but transitional change proves that it's an effort of the mass and not a single handed idea.
