minimal is pretty much done now.
seriously, if you think minimal is still the next big thing you might as well be talking about that big party sounding electro house, tribal, or even trancey progressive.

You know, what I realised, is it doesn't matter what the "next big thing" is, just go with what you like, and what suits you. Sure knowing and acknowledging something new that could be big is nice, but it beats the purpose of listening to music.

To say such things is rather ignorant and naïve.

People have been saying that for almost two years and honestly it’s a joke. The people saying it are the people pissed off that the crowds that used to go to there shows are now going to more intelligent shows. Stripped down or minimal music in general is such a more mature sound that a lot of people are threatened by it. Instead of cheesy producers using layer upon layer of crap people are finding fewer samplers of well produced material to be more appealing.

Yes minimal has been the tag word to use as of late and is often misused or misunderstood. You will find some people shying away from the term however the idea and influence will continue to exist.

Not everyone will get it but there is a swing in the guard because people are realizing that you don’t need all that garbage to make a groove and to get people to dance. Say what you want but people who don’t find it appealing are always going to hate on the movement or swing of things because its not in there taste. The minimal concept has been around for over 10 years and will continue to exist.

Not sure if you would consider it minimal or techno, but since I heard Tiesto drop it in Miami I've been stuck on "Julian Jeweil - Air Conditionne". "Oxia - Domino" is another fantastic tune.

I will have to say though that a full set of minimal or techno DJ's in a row is a bit much for me personally. But it's nice to see different DJ's trying to mix it up who wouldn't have normally played something like that years ago.

Some minimal sucks ass, some is great- but Chris Allen has made the smartest comment in this thread. Eclecticism is a good thing and that fact that DJs are looking at more genres to find MUSIC from is a really good thing. I think there is a LOT of fresh sounds nowadays and if you complain you can't find anything to listen to, you aren't looking hard enough (or at all).

Oh and some spam, click my sig if you want some eclectic beatz.

ive always subscribed to the less is more theory.
but there is no denying that the market is becoming saturated with the typical minimal sound. whenever this happens with any sound of the moment, it will inevitably move to the peripheries of the spotlight.
thats all im saying.
minimal has been around for a long time and i dont think its going to disappear. but pretty soon no one will give a fuck about it anymore.
all these people who are goin on about minimal, the same way they were going on about tribal and electro not even a year ago, will move onto somethign else.

Very true and I can understand your point. I will almost be happier when that day happens because what is left are the people who truly due enjoy the genre. Whether people want to believe it or not the majority of them fall victim to popular trends in music. It is very hard for a lot of people to formulate there own opinions on things of artistic nature. So in turn things like minimal will continue to surge in popularity and hopefully survive afterwards.

I just get a little touchy when people make some sort of indication that because the buzz is gone that the demand and respect for it will diminish. I don’t believe we will see this happen in comparison to genres like electro (which really isn’t even electro) because of the tastefulness of the music. Personally straight up minimal can be a bore however the concept of stripping music back is essential for our scene to progress. It forces producers to really focus and perform at a higher level compared to the pile on attitude of trance and progressive.
