I am all about doing whatever is necessary to get across what you want to get across. The one thing I am adamant about is effort. You should be giving it your all. if giving it your all requires 2 tables, ableton, 3 cdjs and a mandolin, so be it. In the end you should just be giving it all you got and I think it shows when a Dj is.

see you are doing it again
every dj i know that plays out with ableton has a rather impressive midi controller in which they can do tons of tricks, effects, etc with. i think its really cool watching sasha use all of the knobs and faders he has on his maven. i also know a local dj here in chicago that has a trigger finger he loads up with samples in ableton and does all of his own drum fills etc live on the spot and he totally captivates people with it.
to be honest i dont think many people have any interest in watching what a dj does, other than OTHER djs. people know what pushing a record looks like, they know what moving a crossfader looks like, but that hot girl/boy that just walked onto the dancefloor is something they havent seen before. whats even funnier is, how many times can you actually SEE what a dj is doing in a club? usually they are perched up on some stage or in some booth that you cant even see into.
to sit here and go back and forth about this would be stupid. every argument you have against laptop djing i can think of one to debunk it. just have an open mind please, you will thank yourself for it later.

what difference does that make? whats cd & mp3 sales got to do with anything im talking about vinyl ur talking rubbish if the industry has grown and vinyl sales increased then surely it proves it isnt dieing out common sense really

if anything it proves that it has jumped in the niche rock hipster market, which is NOT where vinyl purist dance djs want it to be. i found a top ten list of vinyl sales in england for i think it was last year or 2004 that listed some ancient IRON MAIDEN record as the top seller in vinyl for that year. ill have to look for that list again.
its the cool hip thing to do right now, to buy 7"s. when that fad burns away, so will vinyl sales.
earlier on in this thread noone was talking about a specific genre of music so i dont know what ur getting at. the point is vinyl sales have INCREASED thats all that matters doesnt it? and why u talking about a fad for
the tape was supposed to kill vinyl
the cd was supposed to kill vinyl
now the mp3 is meant meant to kill vinyl.
vinyl has out lived everything there is no prove up to now that anything is going to change.
It sounds to me like u and that other guy r completey against vinyl and cant wait for it to die out which imo is a stupid attitude to have what wrong with enjoying everything out there.

it is not all that matters. the increase is only due to the fact that it is a FAD for hip rockers to buy vinyl 7" iron maiden records, when sales in the dance world of vinyl arent really up. for the dance djs sake, he should want vinyl sales to be up in dance music, not classic rock records, in order for vinyl production to stand a chance past the current fads. more and more dance labels go digital everyday, vinyl is just no longer worth the headache and the gamble for 90% of those labels.
im not against vinyl, im just pointing out the obvious. subscribing fully to either side of this argument would be stupid as it is just so fucking trivial.

It's math. If cd & mp3 sales are growing faster than those of vinyl, then cds & mp3s represent a greater and greater percentage of the music people buy. If that continues, eventually, that percentage will near 100% and vinyl will near 0%.
