Well, hes not paying that 1000$ a month in just tickets, increased insurance and pymts (id guess not)

im assuming a good portion of it could be repairs and maintenance?

and, gonna generalize here, but if we're talking about jeff's sunfire, if its a pre 2001, thre might be little he can do to improve its reliablity (therefore R&M costs could be something he cant exactly stop)

ok time to end the debate

taking a bus/subway is cheaper no matter how you look at it but the downside is less comfort

having a car is always more expensive especially if it needs mantainance but it is less hassle and you dont have to think about when to catch a buss. Basically a car = independence that you pay for.

Truesay.

Well if that's the case...then I guess it's not worth keeping the car (esp. if it's something like a pre-2000 sunfire) haha...I own a 2002 Sunfire (bought it new and now has 50K on it) and it's a crap car (very high maintenance) IMO.

But basically...Jeff has to look at the benefits (i.e. independence, convenience) and costs (insurance, gas, repairs)...and see which one outweights the other...

I guess my opinion comes from the experience of commuting from somewhere that involves double fare and long commutes using the transit system
