Personally, I think they should. Naturally, I would say that though. I'm a user of the metric system. Now, please correct me if I am wrong, but is the US the only country left that does not use the metric system? What does need to be considered is the cost of doing business. Think of the money that could be saved by having one standard tool set for example ( I hate having to switch between metric and imperial tools!)
Being Canadian, I am a hybrid I suppose. I couldn't even tell you what I weigh in kilos, nor how tall i am in centimeters!
I don't think the USA will switch however.. If they were going to they would have by now |
Burma and Liberia also aren't metric

Well no wonder the USA has not gone metric. With the amount of trade it does with those superpowers, it would be foolish to change to metric! |
Well, they convert the currency, I don't see why it's a big deal to convert the mass or volume.
Actually, I'm kind of glad we're not metric, because A4 paper pisses me off. The width is too thin.

umm no. i can name a few fields that dont use it at all. IT, construction (with the exception of government jobs), furniture business just to name a few. |
IT uses hertz alot, which you can twist around to get wavelength, which is measured in meters! omfg IT is teh metric! Volts, seconds, degrees celsius, and alot of other geeky things like that are the same units as everyone else, its not that backwards.
As far as I can tell the wierd units we are left using are
pounds & ounces (I love ounces you better not take them away!)
cup, pint, quart, gallon (these are sometimes used outside the US as well, especially pint)
Miles, yards & feet & inches
Farenheit
to say we measure everything in imperial units is an exageration.

but $1 and $2 coins work in most vending machines. how much trouble do notes cause there?
one imperial measure that should be pushed out to take over the metric world is the pint. It's proven over time to be the correct measure for 1 beer.
even within australia, every state has different size glasses for beer, and different names. the problem is overcome by going to a pub that sells guiness and ordering a pint.
not to mention that scourge of sydney pubs, the schmiddy ( a cross between the larger schooner and smaller middy - used to rip people off when they order and pay for the larger size)
Long live the pint.
