Shade, you're forgetting one simple fact: I wouldn't listen the music if I couldn't download it because its TOO EXPENSIVE. Music producers price themselves out of business... and thats a simple fact.

What I'm saying is that the choice is between ZERO dollars, or tour revenue... gee, as an artist, which am I going to choose?

You aren't looking at the fact that this is FREE MARKETING FOR ARTISTS.

Maybe one of the 20 people I mention an artist to will check it out, and purchase it.

However, once again, none of you seem to be understanding that the loss in record sales is ONLY devastating to LABELS, not the artists, because artists never made money off of record sales to begin with. How is that so hard to come to grips with? I KNOW this, because I live/lived it. This is coming from someone who has sold over a hundred thousand albums in Canada - most of which revenue simply went back to the labels. We only ever really made money off of touring, but more importantly, radio/tv royalties.

You just flat out don't understand the industry, nor do you understand the new opportunities that are arrising from downloading. You're still looking at it from the wrong perspective. Its not about right and wrong, its about resistance or acceptance of change, and how you make change work for you. Welcome to the economic world - this is EVERY industry, not just music.

how do artists make money from their radio shows on the internet?

Take ASOT for example, how does Armin make any money off of it or does his label or the radio station make money?

advertising, sponsorships and promotions of his newest tracks with the hope that people will buy them.

Also ASOT is on the air so stations pay a syndication licencing fee to the show.

its wrong but that is done on a much more local basis. Somebody has to buy the song first. Online you can get 1000s of copies from just one legit copy. In the past one legit copied may be dubbed down half a dozen times at the most.

And from off the radio, real music fans wont settle for danny d giving you the traffic report over your favourite song. So there is no comparison there.

If it all comes down to buying tracks and CD, then the music industry still needs some major restructuring in order to adapt to this major problem. They need some kind of brilliant system that actually benefits the music industry when ppl download illegally(which is the current trend these days). I know this is easier said than done, so the industry will be forced to change sooner or later to keep its self alive.

I think people would be and are much more willing to spend money on an album if the album is providing the quality that the consumer deserves.

I think that file sharing is a way for people to test out if they like an artists music, and when they decide, they can make an effort to collect and support their work.

Sure this isn't always the case, however there ARE still people supporting their favourite artists.

Maybe if these greedy-ass record companies weren't quickly throwing shit onto CD's half the time to mass produce and sell them for as much money as they can, leaving the buyer's disappointed with where their hard earned money went, people wouldn't be so inclined to "steal" the songs first.

There have been many times where I bought a CD, and the one song I knew I liked was on it, and the rest were garbage. I wasted $25 on a coaster!

Record companies need to start selling QUALITY work, stuff people will enjoy, or the people wont want to buy it.

I have discovered more artists through Kazaa, DC++ etc. then I ever would. I do not watch TV at all, and I rarely listen to the radio. If it hadn't been for file sharing, I wouldn't be the TranceAddict I am today.

I think that file sharing is making music better for the consumers, and that, in my opinion, is what is most important. Finally, people are getting the music they want, and not the shit that they feed us.
