Kinda toned down the "big parties this year", but here's my comments
Live set of the year for me was Victor Calderone's set from Stereo, in Montreal in April. It's an almost 3 hour set, and had some incredible promos in it such as
Maskio - Mia Casa (Peter Bailey Re-Edit)
Juan Diaz - Free (Original Mix)
Alan T - Dance Culture
Victor Calderone - Give It Up (Carlos Manaca mix)
Keep in mind he was playing those tracks in April and they got big afterwards.
Steve Lawler's Wasted mix is in second place...Zoom In, Zoom Out, Rej, another good mix.
As for parties of the year I would have to go with my number 1 pick
Joe Claussell, @ Sunnyside Pavilion in July great music, great crowd, nice seeing Claussell loving life.
Other big parties include:
Chus and Ceballos @ Sonic - May 13th, 2006...I stayed for the whole set, which is something I haven't done in a while. Great set.
Victor Calderone @ Sonic - August 2006. Victor played awesome after taking some time to warm up. Best part is him closing out the night with the Cure and the Cause.
Dimitri from Paris @ This is London - February 2006. After New Years I started a tradition where I don't drink from January 3rd until the next big DJ comes. I broke my streak for Dimitri this year and got tipsy. The beautiful thing is I am doing it again this year and Dimitri’s back on February 3rd.
Deep Dish @ This is London – January 2006. The opening of SoHo Fridays at This is London was an absolutely retarded party.
Steve Lawler @ Skybar – June 2006. What a cold day! The only time I would be caught dead at Skybar is whenever Mr. Lawler spins. I still remember him dropping Insomnia as his third song of the set.
Non Toronto parties
Chus and Ceballos @ The Boom Boom Room (Windsor) – June 2006. The party wasn’t that busy, but the energy was crazy and the people I went with were really awesome people. We still joke about this party now. Legendary Night
Chus and Ceballos @ Heaven (Ottawa) – Canada Day 2006, November 2006. I like the vibe in Ottawa, and it isn’t that bad. Heaven is Ottawa’s best club, and C and C rocked it out both times.
New York
Danny Tenaglia at Pacha (NYC) – August 2006. Seeing the legend in New York was something to behold, especially at an internationally renowned club like Pacha in NYC. Danny can still wurk it!
Quentin Harris at Cielo (NYC)- August 2006. This was the night after Danny Tenaglia, and man was I beat. The highlight of my year, musically, occurred on this night. Fresh Fruit is mostly an all house night, and out of nowhere Quentin Harris dropped Beyonce’s Déjà vu. I thought it was such a ballsy move and it came completely out of nowhere. The vocals on that track are amazing, and I was blown away, especially since I am not that familiar with popular music. Great night.
Francois K at Cielo (NYC) – August 2006. Seeing the legend at Cielo for his Deep Space Monday was incredible. This man plays some tripped out shit and I loved every moment of it.
Miami WMC
Miami is a vastly overrated party city, and each WMC gets worse and worse. I didn’t have that much fun in past years, but here are some parties that stand out.
Steve Lawler, Francois K, Sean Miller, etc @ Space (Miami) – March 2006. Lights Out Miami is one of the bigger WMC parties on the schedule. This was a great first night, even though I missed the Defected: In The House party because of airplane troubles. It felt like a night at the Guvernment though, because of all the Toronto people in the house.
Danny Krivit + jojoflores @ Rain (Miami) – March 2006. I actually was a host for this party in Miami which was pretty cool. It got deep, it got disco, and it was really fun.
Roger Sanchez, Chus and Ceballos, etc @ Space – March 2006. The turnout for this party was actually pretty bad, but Chus and Ceballos rocked the house. People got tired of getting raped by Space this year, and the turn out for this party shows that.
Victor Calderone and DJ Vibe @ Crobar – March 2006. This was the party of the WMC for me (and I think the set is floating around somewhere). Great party, great club and great people. Calderone is the king of tribal.
Danny Krivit @ Opium Garden – March 2006. I love this space, as it is probably my favorite club in Miami. Danny was killing it, and I think it was a Salted gets Deep party.
Disappointment of the year: Peter Rauhofer getting sick and missing his Guvernment party, and then the fiasco at 5ive or whatever the hell it is called now.
Honorable mention parties: Kerri Chandler @ 99 Sudbury (July), David Guetta @ Lot 332 (April), Dimitri from Paris @ Sonic (July), DJ Vibe @ Sonic (June).
