Who are we to determine what they represent?
Is it wrong for us then to be appaled when a bear eats a human, and then kill the bear because he is dangeous to our species? Why shouldn't we just say "oh well, that's the way the cookie crumbles". Most animals i.e. pigs, cows and chickens, can't do anything about the fact that we raise them as food and kill them to eat.
Also, take the whole thread awhile back about the Chinese people eating dogs. Why does it seem inhumane to the North American culture? They probably think the same thing of the meat that we eat. |
I agree, as omnivores, I don't think you can say it is right to eat one animal's meat and not the other. It sounds quite hypocritical to me for one to say it is wrong to eat dog, yet ok to eat chicken, why because one is cultivated for that purpose and the other domesticated?
Not that I would go out there and eat someone’s dog tonight, don't get me wrong, just that if another culture chooses to do so, then don’t condemn them. I personally, due to many friendships with domesticated animals, could not chose to partake in any eating of said animal for moral reasons.
Waiting for bashing...
It is quite an easy concept. If you had a pet pig, would you be willing to eat it? I think just because cows and pigs are not concidered pets or companions, makes it easier for us to consume from a moral aspect.
