But then there are, of course, lots of bits about stoning to death adulterers and disobedient children and people who work on the Sabbath and all those other things that the Lord wanted people killed for doing. |
I was talking about the non-violence part, I should have put them in separate sentences or something.
We all have to remember that without the Torah, Jesus wouldn't have anything to interpret.

He might have had ideas but who's to say that he is the final say? Amidst his ideas, he was still a devout Jew... ate Kosher, respected the Sabbath, etc... You could call him the first public "reform" Jew. |
He doesn't have the final say. You do, and I do. But that is my interpretation. Some people DO believe he has the final say.

The mere existance of Christianity is complete bullshit. First off, if Christians were to believe in the ideas of Jesus, than Christians would have to abide by the Torah. No matter how 'holy' Jesus was supposed to be, Jesus still prayed to a god (which disapproves the idea that 'Jesus is thy Lord and savior'), and he abided by the Torah and all its laws. |
I'm not certain what exactly your point is. I get the impression you believe that Christians elevate Jesus to a higher status then God, take his authority over God's, and pray to him instead of God. If this is what you think then I must correct you. The proper view of Jesus to Christians is that he was a physical manifestation of God on earth. He is not above God, rather he was part of God who lived as man to experience life as man. Through this experience Jesus became the ideal intermediary between God and man as he was devine but human. Christians do pray directly to God, however, we often will invoke the name of Jesus in our prayers seeking his advocacy on our behalf (I supposed that this is based on a believe that Jesus, having been man, is more sympathetic to our plights). If you believe that Christians disregard God in favour of Jesus you simply misunderstand us.
Additionally, I should point out that stating we ignore the law of the Torah is simply incorrect. Yes, there are many things that we do not abide by, however, this is more a stylistic difference then anything else. Our focus is on the things that Jesus taught, the things he focused on, as this is what we believe he felt was important. What Jesus' ministry was about was cutting through all the little things and erred beliefs that were convoluting the real message of God. Are the laws important, yes, but they are not the be all and end all, what really matters is living as God would want us to.
Now, more on topic with this thread.... A question to any believers (this should apply to Muslims too as finding the remains of Jesus is really more a blow to their faith then it is to Christianity)... if these remains could be and were proven to be Jesus' and his family... does that really effect your beliefs?

Having learned it the hard way, my philosophy is ABANDON ANY ARGUMENT when it pertains to religion, choice of music, choice of Operating System, or afinity for certain brand of MP3 player. It's a pointless conversation in which one thing is constant: COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF CRAP BEING FLUNG BETWEEN CONVERSING PARTIES.

And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. |
