No but seriously I came into MDD with a COR attitude. I'll make sure next post/thread to be more thorough, analytical and anal.

I don't really think that's the real problem, the real problem was that you have sucked at doing whatever it is you have wanted to do throughout this thread.

This thread and the person who started it are fucking stupid for any number of reasons, so I'll only point out one:

How the fuck can you rip off a genre? How can you rip off a genre? How? Using the general sounds incorporated by a large body of artists is not "ripping off" anything, because lots of people and lots of tracks have used those sounds. It's not even as if the connection is very close- we're talking a synth sound that's similar. Stop being an idiot. Artists taking sounds from other genres and recontextualising them in a new genre is not plagiarism- it's one of the key parts of musical evolution and development.

Oh, and the "irony" you found is no such thing. This track is at a slower tempo, uses a very different rhythmic template and is largely of a completely different style with completely different musical techniques and aims. This is not the American public buying trance because it's been repackaged, you dolt.

So, trance hasn't ever ripped off anything ever?

This thread reeks of mental abasement.

Or maybe you're an idiot. All my friends seem to know what I'm talking about.

Btw, I do like Timbaland in a technical aspect, but this song not so much aesthetically.

Opening your rebuttle with a pompous prick attitude and an Ad hominem attack is really going to convice me your point of view. Or maybe it just gives me ample excuse to flame your sphincter, SYSTEM-jackass.

And please don't tell me this has to do with the fact that your name is SYSTEM-J and I used SYSTEM-F as a trance song for comparision...

Oh my god. Oh my god. You totally just typed that twice. You totally just typed that twice.

Yes, the synth that sounds similar. And the way it's patterned. Along with the kick & clap...that was ALL I had sand in my vagina about. Nothing further.

Yeeewwwww are styooooopid. Ayyy am Sven.

Remind me never to make quick witted comments like "she's so ripping off the 60s sytle with her hair" without you commenting, "omg, she can incorporate it and am I mean look at her dress, that's new. You're an idiot." Thank you Dr. Everything is Important and Relevant.

Yes, I already addressed that.

Are you talking about the synth I am referring to? Or something else that I never mentioned and really don't care about?

Largely, yes. But you to ignore the resemblance of a really crappy trance/euro-dance song slowed down in the beginning of Timbaland's song is like ignoring a fat old Russian lady wobbling down the street screaming, "Nyet Nyet Nyet!".

Seriously when I first heard this song I thought, "oh weird, who starts off a euro dance trance at this BPM? Maybe it's during the break and it's going to build up to 130bpm." I thought it was a dance track that happened to start during the "break" (it wasn't uncommon for dance tracks in the 90s to break down into 90-100bpm and built back up to 120-130bpm). But then there was rapping over it and I was like "wtf? hahahahaha, whaaaaat? oh god no!"

Sounds like it completely in the intro (before the vocals) to me. But overall song, no. And overall, the incorporation of the elements that I talked about really don't mesh with the track in my opinion. Of course, this is what Timbaland wants people to think, as the album is entitled "Shock Value." So maybe I'm reacting in-the-box?

So you want this to become the "every genre rips of everything else so you need to be more non-discriminatory" thread? I'm just addressing one song. Of course songs from all genres rip-off other songs. If you really want, I can make more threads regarding other songs. But I'm sure you don't want me to. So do me a favor and "demoted" yourself out of this thread if you can't contribute anything valid, thanks.

Tracks that sound like other tracks not done by the same producer?

seems there already is a thread.

All music is a compound of previous music. It is a cumulative thing with twists for new genre innovations. Who cares that he "sampled trance" as you would say. Your entire thread isn't valid. It contributed nothing other than to state a tangible and well-known fact.

Let me start another thread saying

"people breathe to stay alive".

Just about as helpful as this thread

Here's some quotes from reviews and blogs of people whom I have no affiliation with. Seems they understand the link between the song and trance too:

quote:
...The first two-thirds of the album are front-loaded with the kind of futuristic club beats his rep rests on, and some of them-- the berserk Bootsy-meets-Thomas Dolby-by-way-of-Basement Jaxx house-funk of "Release" and the "The Way I Are", which sounds like "Push It" gone trance-- are straight-up jaw-droppers...

SOURCE

quote:
...I'm a fan of “The Way I Are;” with its trance-y keyboard line, it's clearly a musical sequel to “My Love."...

SOURCE

quote:
...A slim number of tracks off this album really show Timbaland’s virtuosity and ingenious creativity. “Way I Are,” another club track infusing house and trance together,...
