It kinda is.

Just because English is your native language (or just because you speak a language, whatever language that is), it doesn't mean you should be able to write it properly. Men developed language hundred of thousands of years ago, whereas writing didn't exist until the Bronze Age.

Writing is not a natural process, whereas talking is. So, even if you speak a language fluently, you might have had some trouble at school (either you had bad teachers or you just didn't get the gist of how writing works). There's nothing wrong about it, although you need to improve your writing skills if you want to succeed in modern society.

...no it isn't asking too much. To clearly present my idea, would you like to correct my sentence?

To his defense, Trump didn't even really look like a bum.

I don't expect everyone to be able to use English properly, but those who aren't capable of such should not expect others to ignore that deficiency. I'm not advocating grammar-based hate crimes, but if I talk to someone who frequently says "me and him" or doesn't know when to use different pronunciations of "the," I make assumptions about the person's academic background and/or level of intelligence.

You're right, it's not, but you don't know what most of our native languages are.

I still think judging someone by how they type is redonkulous.

Ha!

What a load of bollocks.

If I can write and speak English correctly, anyone else who has also learnt the language from birth should be able to. It's not hard.

Many non-native English speakers such as the Dutch, ze Germans etc write beautiful English on the internet (it amazes me consistently actually), in some ways superior to even a good native speaking English writer. If they can, why shouldn't someone who has been doing it since birth be able to?

You wouldn't put as much effort perfecting a native language as you would perfecting a foreign language. That's because you actually have to "study" the foreign language at school, whereas you develop the ability to speak your native language naturally from birth.
