I have always loved Sasha, been devoted to him, going to every show he plays in LA and often driving up to San Francisco to hear him spin as well. His music defined by early days of clubbing more than any other Dj, but his sets lately have been mediocre at best. Where has the energy gone in his music? I saw him at Vanguard a few weeks back and nearly fell asleep, I'm not joking, it was painful to listen. To me, John Digweed has maintained his connection with the dancefloor, playing strong music, but not Sasha.

I hate saying this

Agree.

It's hard to fault him for his tunes not being as "fresh" as they once were considering the ease of access we now have with the internet (though dropping Love It as of late is fucking stupid), it's that the tunes he plays now are just crap or average at best. I don't mean to say he needs to be playing like he was in years past - there have definitely been some sets in the last few years that have floored me - but for the most part the tracks he's playing now are so formulaic and watered down. They sound like they've been produced in 10 minutes just to make it to the top of the Beatport charts and it's completely baffling as to why he's playing this shit. To make it worse it seems he's completely lost that sense of flow that used to make his sets great. Now they're just all over the fucking place going from peak time bombs to tracks he should be using to open a night with one after another. I don't think there's a better example than the sets he's been dropping Supermayer - Two of Us in lately. It's a great track but he has no place to go after opening with it at Lovefest. Even better was the mix out of it in the Tribe set a few weeks back, which is one of the worst transitions I've ever heard.

His EM and damn near every other set this year is a perfect example of this, I honestly don't see how people can be impressed with that if they've been listening to him for years but I suppose to each his own. I did like Bonnaroo, but really just because it was bombs.com for 3 hours it didn't have shit for flow. But as everyone's said no matter what he always seems to have that epic night up his sleeve just as you think you're done with him.

Oh, and UCB ftfuckinw (y)

Those of you that said Sasha's essential mix sucked... Wow.

I don't know what the fuck you all expect from a DJ, even with our so called "refined tastes". I've learned to keep a more open mind these days and I'm enjoying the music more than ever.

Just cause you post on Trance Addict doesn't mean you're god's gift to music critics, and maybe everyone should just take a 5 minute timeout in the corner and come back a little less uptight about the whole thing.

The glorification then the inevitable contempt for DJs on here is really ridiculous, staying a die hard fan forever isn't what I'd see anyone be either, it's more like taking a step back and laughing at how seriously you took the whole thing then starting to enjoy it again.

Whats wrong with not liking a set?

Should I always post a set I enjoyed better at the same time to balance things out for you?

Also, part of the reason why I didnt like it was because the sound quality of the recording and broadcast is so fucking horrible. It makes it difficult to hear those intricacies that make Sasha's ableton mixing so interesting at times.

Nor does it make you one either. Just because you like something doesn't mean everyone else has to.

You obviously missed the memo that went around.

In summary, yes, it does, and I am.

It feels that way on here sometimes

I know Sasha has refined tastes and those tastes are leading him somewhere different right now, he's on his own journey. Problem is that when I'm in a club, I want to dance and his music doesn't make me want to do that anymore.

Spooky too please. Any and all reasons will be met with an open mind - they both just bored the piss out of me this weekend.

Don't believe the hype folks.

Also, is this a drunk thread?

Maybe, folks. Maybe.

TAs who had an awesome time this weekend: like 15
TAs who had a not awesome time this weekend: 1.5 (I think myra liked it and is covering for you)

end of debate.
