Well, gotta understand the scene here.
House big. D&B big. Trance secondary. Mixture next.
Honestly, while I like Taj, Dirtyhertz, G&D, and others more than any of those top five in the end it doesn't amaze me. Someone like Rooz at #7 does, though I guess he's more known to the underground scene than the club scene. (Note: I think Rooz is a great house DJ, just that you don't really see him in the club scene!)
G&D had FAR FEWER gigs in SF in 2007 than in the past few years. They had a stint of a few there, but other than Josh's track Summitt, they really haven't come up with anything this year mainly because they have been focused on completing the Andain album (note: I have a good DJ/producer long-time friend -- dude was like 14 when I met him, he was a videogame industry writer, I got him into trance, and now he has all kinds of tracks signed to various labels. unfair lol. Rich boy lol!) who got a sneak listen at a bunch of the new Andain tracks earlier this year (he has gotten to know Dave and Josh well as a producer) and he says so far it's soooo much better than the G&D album. Question is, how much of it wil lbe danceable. I dunno. Just heard that the tracks he heard were really awesome in his eye.
Anyhow, as far as peeps like Taj and Dirtyhertz go. Outside of Ten15, trance has been pretty lackluster in SF over the course of 2007. That means less exposure. ANd outside of Ten15, they didn't really do that many opening sets in other venues like they seemed to do in 2006.
It also seems like, at least for Taj, that the marketing to get voted isn't nearly as abundant as this year. I remember I couldn't wipe my ass last year w/o the toilet paper saying "VOTE FOR TAJ"...well, it at least seemed this way HAH.
Anyhow, as a DJ who plays mainly at one club and occasionally at another club (Note: I don't count any gigs at EndUp as most people who go there on Sunday mornings and stuff are in a different world and don't even really pay attention to the names of the DJs!), I think Taj being where he is on the list is a great thing and nothing to be ashamed of. Same for Dirtyhertz, too.
