In that case, not one record made by The Beatles, Thin Lizzy, Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder etc. was any good at all because they all had decent sales. I actually cant get over the fucking stupidity of that comment.
An awful lot of the people who do this bashing are the ones who refuse to jump on any of the popular bandwagons or trends within edm. I am a believer of this in some ways, as I think everyone should have their own taste and like whatever they like, not whatever is trendy to like. Yet despite this view that a lot of you have, you all jump on bandwagons constantly by bashing whoever it is trendy to bash at the time. Anything that goes from the underground to more mainstream seems to get bashed....Tiesto: once adored, then bashed by loads as soon as he gained mainstream success...the minimal genre: heralded as 'the' new movement, the underground genre the was creating waves in edm/when this underground phenomenon went more mainstream, it was suddenly disliked by the same people who swore by ita year or two before...people whose productions break into a few charts and they are considered a sell out?! So because someone's sound becomes popular, they are sell-outs?! Lets be honest about things, how many DJs/producers are out their playing and making music in the hope that they get a big break? The majority of them. Very very few, if any, are out their purposely trying to stay as underground as possible and not become popular.
The amount of DJs/producers on TA that I have seen getting torn to shreds has been shocking. I have seen Max Graham, Hydroid, Dave Dresden, Niklas Harding, Blake Jarrell, Deadmau5 etc all get extreme levels of abuse over their productions/DJing. Admitidly some of them were and are complete dickheads but I still dont feel a person's personality should have any connection with their music.
Is it jealousy that none of you have ever managed to make a break through of your own? Maybe you are fucking hopeless producers or DJs who cant stand to see anybody else enjoy a bit of success? Fair enough, I have my own tastes and TA is a place where we can all voice our opinions on edm. But there is a huge difference in voicing an opinion and needlessly tearing into someone's music because it has gained some success. I am fully convinced that a fair few of you will not be happy until you drive away every single producer on TA who has had some success within the edm scene, and all that is left is you guys still moaning about anything and everything. Critisism is one thing but constantly abusing someone until they leave TA is pointless.
In relation to Deadmau5, I am not a fan of his electro stuff at all but I did like his progressive sound to start with. At this stage I am fairly bored with it and it would be nice to see him alter his progressive sound, but I certainly dont think that a few similar sounding tracks justifies the abuse he is getting. Many of his tracks that are getting torn to shreds now, were being adored before everyone started playing them....how does over-playing a track turn it from good to bad??? That doesnt make any sense.
Anyway, I know that this post wont make the slightest bit of difference but I just wish people would start forming their own opinions and not needlessly abusing artists for the sake of it. Maybe even try and post one or two positive posts instead of always being so negative. As Ive said before on TA, it is supposed to supportive of the edm scene, not driving people away from it. |
