Am I getting the idea that somehow many people think Daft is selling out? WOW, have any of you who think that heard their last album. I clearly can't see how you find a song that says "ROBOT ROCK" 500078x mass appealing. I'm also against the colab with Kanye, but seariously...c'mon now.

This thread isn't very coherent, but for those disparaging the song or performance as not Daft Punk's best...

Look, it's not the greatest song of all-time or even one of the coolest performances, but it was a really neat collab between two producers on the top of their game in different genres. Take it for what it is.

Yeah. What makes for good business doesn't necessarily make for good music, and the two are often antithetical. Exactly. I don't feel like Daft Punk is "selling out" either, more like Kanye trying to ride on someone else's success because he's pretty terrible at everything

Once they sign big-label contracts they lose total creative control. Every major label will have the artist(s) change parts of their song so that it will sell better. So where, then, does the creativity lie? In the artist that works at a fucking McDonalds 30 hours a week, goes home, sits in his studio in front of gear that he busted ass for years to earn (instead of having some big label go, "Okay, here, you can have all of this awesomeness for a few hours on this day."), and makes some fucking quality music because he wants to, not because some label is demanding that he meet deadlines. This guy will get off of their shift at 9PM on a Friday, bust their ass over to the club by 9:30, spin from 10:00-12:00, stay at the club until it closes at 2:00AM, help tear down gear until 4:00AM, and be back at work at 8:00AM. That is where quality music comes from; someone with a passion for it, a desire for it. Not some fucking asshole who signed a major label contract because they want to be famous and are willing to sacrifice creative control over what essentially made them who they were in the first place. It's fucking disgusting.
