The difference here is that Wiener isn't half-way across the world in some faraway land getting shot at when she got the bad news.
I don't want to hear any of that 'he chose his path' shit.
It sucks that you're feeling run-down while in country, but it happens. It sucks that you broke your fingers, but it happens and it could have been a whole lot worse, as I'm sure you know all too well.
That your ex decided to split while you're in that position is terrible, and reflects badly on her.
But please, until you're risking your life every day just by waking up, leave your negative opinions at the door. Show some basic compassion, at the very least you owe him that much. This is not open for debate.
So yes, he gets a pass for wearing a uniform.
And as for Yuris, ban the cockgobbler already.

Wiener gets sympathy because people here like her. I don't like her because she got married and had a kid - in fact, I detest most people like this. I like her and am more inclined to feel for her because she appears to be a very generous person, a kind mother and a humourous person on these boards. Nobody is chiming in for her situation to say she 'got what she deserved' or something because people here like her; conversely, people in this thread seem to be of mind that this is just soooo much worse because it happened to a soldier. It's a shit situation, but people's automatic sympathy is either programmed from some sort of feigned patriotism or the fact that they can relate it to a similar situation occurring to someone else whom they know - nothing particular in SteelWolf's case, as he is, uh... who is he again?
Shit situation. But your profession doesn't make it better or somehow worse, and auto-respect response is utter bullshit. And I know "m8s" like yourself don't automatically have respect for everyone who comes on here, unless you'd like to claim that you now do? |
Where did I ask for "auto respect"? Also, why is it you think people treat this as "sooooooo much worse"? I haven't seen anyone even compare the two outside of me.
And how is people's sympathy automatic? Or better yet, how do you know it's automatic?
How were you even addressing me again? What was your point?
I really don't see how you even addressed my post in the least.
And I think the auto-response of "fuck you" you justify with things like:
A. I don't know you.
B. I think your choice of profession is dumb.
...is incredibly shortsighted, pointless, and really only serves to make you and others acting like you look like complete fucks. So I ask you again, what's there gain from jumping into a thread like this and pissing all over a kid who's pouring his heart out?
I'd love to know.
And you're absolutely right, I don't automatically respect people on here - not by a long shot. Again though, I don't seem to recall asking for any from you either - though it's certainly well within my right to let you know I think you're acting like a complete twat as well.

hahahaha, pouring his heart out over the internet? Man. tsk fucking tsk. I expected far more from you. I never said his situation wasn't shit. It truly fucking is. Stop making a goddamned hero out of him though - all of you. Unless some of you actually know him? Hmm? Who is SteelWolf? Who is he? This is what I mean with the auto-respect thing. I am not trying to slight his situation nor am I even responding to his classic tale of woe - I am talking to all of you who think it's brave or noble or something to be stationed far the fuck away from your families for extensive periods of time, live in shitty conditions for years, eat shitty food, lose sleep, etc. I mean, are you all really under the illusion of its necessity? Christ on a stick.

That's all well and good, but I can tell you're just in one of those contrary moods. Go read a book and jerk off in the corner for a while, you'll feel much better about yourself, I promise. I may go do the same, actually.

I don't regard any of that as brave or noble, but joining the military is.
Disband your army and see how quickly it becomes a necessity.
I'll come right out and say that everyone should 'auto-respect' your soldiers. Support your troops, if not the mission. The only thing standing between you and conscription is the thousands upon thousands of voluntary soldiers. Without them, it could just as easily be you in a foxhole.

Class response, way to miss the point entirely. What exactly did you "expect" from me? To be an a crass prick for absolutely no reason at all? And where did I make him into a hero? You really seem to love making assumptions about people based on absolutely no textual evidence what-so-ever. Where did I command you to respect him?
All I asked is what you're getting out of this - and all I think you are is entertainment, which is all fine and well, but it's also fucking pathetic that random irrelevant soapbox bullshit like this is what gets you off.
And if you're going to play the "You're always a dickhead card" - well you can fuck right off because you clearly haven't been paying much attention.

What the fuck does that even mean, anyways? LoL.

It means that you should remember there are a lot of soldiers there who don't support the mission, or the administration, but are stuck in the shit anyways. Any one of whom could easily be your little brother. Let's try not to make the same mistakes as during Vietnam, where soldiers were routinely spat on (I've been spat on while in uniform), called baby-killers, etc...for nothing more than answering the call. They're people, not mindless killing machines and standing day after day in the blood of children has a way of screwing with you head, you should know that Jenny.

I think you're all forgetting what this guy is actually bitching about here: A BROKEN FINGER AND HIS GIRLFRIEND LEFT HIM.
This is just like any other ghey pity thread, except because this guy's in the army that somehow means we should feel extra sorry for him? Fuck off, lol.

He also complains of insomnia unless medicated, and nightmares when he does manage to sleep. Post-traumatic stress is serious shit.
Okay, so he's fishing a bit, but given his current situation, I'll bite. Have a fucking heart.

He's surrounded by people who are (apparently) suffering, but the universe is against HIM, right? Again, fuck off.

Apparently suffering?
What about this looks subjective to you?

And don't even bring conscription into this. What is this, World War II? Do you think that's what this war is about? Lmfao. [/QUOTE]
WWII has nothing to do with it. Vietnam? A shortage of volunteer soldiers means conscription. What is so hard to understand here?
Manditory military service is a way of life in a lot of countries, and there but for the grace of a volunteer standing army go all of you.
To be frank, I'm really disappointed in the attitude here. Especially you Jenny, you're a nurse. You should understand this better than most because you deal with the sick, injured, dying and dead. Or has all that time in hospice, worrying about whether or not calling a mistake to attention would cost you your job ruined your objectivity and voided you of compassion.
