Got there around 12:30, thank GOD (and Fahad) for VIP...didn't spend a minute waiting in line. I felt so bad for the people on the regular line-up, I think that was the longest queue I've ever seen in my partying history. Guys seriously invest in a VIP ticket next time, it's worth it.

Infected Mushroom were already on and doing their thing..these guys are nuts. I suppose they played well cuz they had the crowd going apeshit. But it wasn't really my cup of tea, I do appreciate some Psy/Goa but it was WAY too early for that type of music, in my opinion.

I couldn't wait for Ferry to start..and was overjoyed when I saw him coming in the booth. Ferryyyy
He came on with a massive, banging energy set, great crowd interaction, rhythm and flow, flawless mixing...you name it, it was there.
The crowd was going insane the whole time Ferry was up there..he was just incredible.
Best set of the night hands downs, getting on me knees and putting me forehead to ze ground.
Hearts..hearts..I love Ferry.

Armin was his usual self..he was great. Played an energetic set, on the techy side of things, dropped some awesome tunes, some cheese as well (to be expected), obligatory Jesus poses, dancing and genuinely enjoying himself. The crowd loved it.

Something I discovered over the years about going to see Armin, Do not listen to his sets often. As I used to religiously. You'll enjoy him way more.

I left around 8 because I was: very sick + tired + sober = need sleep. Needed to go home, take my medicine and go to bed...I can't believe I lasted that long on 1 Red Bull.

I hate that I missed Menno's set, and I hate that they put him at fucking 9 AM!!!! .. But my friend texted me around 10 AM saying: "Selma come back!!!..Menno is ripping us a new asshole!!"
So I'm assuming he delivered a great set. Go Menno!

Lights, set-up, decor, blabla...meh. I don't really care for that type of thing..cuz what matters to me: Good music = Happy Selma.

Highlights of the night: System F = Exhale!!, meeting Ferry, Armin and Menno. <3..and just being with my friends, really.
I was happy.

Every 5 years or so there's a new fire department chief. He always wants to clean up the clubs/events and is very strict on legal capacity. Then he just stops giving a crap and becomes a col bleu.

exactly

there was the exact same situation in 2004. Insane lineup, luckily that year I had VIP and got inside in 5 minutes.

Missed 2005 for the tiesto/bennassi fiasco.
2006, 2007, there was barely any lineup at all.
Then all of a sudden, 2008, huge lineup.

Was the demand really that much increased this year? The DJ lineup was fairly similar to 2006 (add ferry, minus Deep Dish, add Calderone). I guess the n00bs come out in droves for the big names; Guetta, Armin

I was actually talking to a lot of random people, and they didn't even know many of the DJ's at all. I think there is A HUGE chunk of people coming in just for the party.

A lot of people have no clue of what DJ's are playing there...

I can't believe all the negativity.

I had a blast. This was my 3rd Bal and I'll bet my left n right nut that I will be back.

I really had no problems this year with anything. Well the sound was a little iffy but other then that everything was good. There was even a laser in the trance room ! haha.

Ferry Armin Menno = AWESOME

I even enjoyed the house room, because it was actually good house. I know everyone will call Guetta cheese, but he can rock the party. I guess I like cheese house, the good euro ibiza shit. Nissim was fuckin great too. The guy is a beauty haha what a mess but a good dj nonetheless.

Yeah VIP is where its at people for Bal, sometimes it helps to shell out a few extra bucks and not be a cheapo and listen to people who know a thing or two about these events, i told many people get VIP and that is worth it and far too many times I've heard "its not worth it". Well is not waiting in line for 3 hours not worth 30 dollars ?

you're right, you're right
I'm just trying to make sense of the extra people in the line. Maybe it was the same numbers, but less staff? I dunno, please someone explain!!

hindsight is 20/20

regardless of vip or not, someone that comes and waits 4.5 hrs to get into a show (AlexXDude) that he/she paid 100$ for DOES NOT MAKE SENSE. come on, give me a break.

hahah yeah, I would have bought a VIP ticket without a doubt for an extra 30$ to save me the 4-hour wait.

I got all nervous most of the day Sunday prepping to be up for so long; I never know how long the body can take being up for so long moving without anything but water, determination and caffeine but I did it .

Anyhow, VIP was the best thing I could have done. From getting in line to hitting the dance floor took a grand total of maybe 10min. Two people in our group didn't get VIP and it took an hour to get in. On our end, security wasn't too thorough, they were more concerned about what I could hide in my white fro and didn't even check my wristlet.

The decor was substandard, this is only my second BeB but is it too difficult to ask for more lights and some more decorations. The stained glass they had above the booth in the tech-trance room was hardly ever highlighted with lights so you couldn't even enjoy that. the lights on the side of the room would have nicely complimented an insane laser show but unfortunately the organizers weren't particularly concerned with the ambiance. In the short time I was in the house room, it looked better imo. I wished for more...I think the blah theme also made it hard for people to dress up in costumes.

Insomnia - Good, always love seeing a female DJ rip it up behind the decks

Infected Mushroom - Made me wish I didn't get there so early. Not my type of music and quite honestly they shouldn't have been in such an early time slot. I sat down in the VIP area then hoping for it to be done. Would have stayed in the house room but one person in our group would go off at a time, we would wait for them to return then someone else went off and it just ended up that we heard a majority of their set.

Ferry - Started early and it sucks he went right after such a fast paced group. He was at a disadvantage having to go after IM and knowing he had to open up for Armin. Anyway, I wasn't a fan of his set at all. He played some good stuff (Don't Look Behind You (track I was hoping he'd play) but I never really got too into his set. I was borderline disappointed.

Armin - He started out his set with Arnej - They Always Come Back which I f*cking love!!! I didn't think my energy levels could spike up that high at 5am but Armin kicked my ass like I would never have expected. Markus Schulz is my absolute favorite DJ and the first 45 min or so of Armin's set had a Markus written all over it. He transitioned to playing some banging tracks. I know some didn't expect him to play that hard but what they hell else is he supposed to do from 5am - 9am??? Carte Blanc (Cosmic Gate Remix), Back to San Francisco (??? remix / rework), La Guitarra, Brazen, Perfect (blanking on the mix, not Agnelli & Nelson), older tracks I don't know what they are called but love were just nuts . When I didn't think I could dance any more he threw down some nasty tribal sounding mashups of As the Rush Comes and Rapture it was ri-damn-diculous!!!

I will admit the bass messed up the speakers baaaaaaaaaadly, there was a point where I felt my ears would start bleeding but luckily they are fine . Armin broke the speakers...

Menno - Like everyone else he couldn't play a traditional Menno de Jong set but dear god did he bang it out proper. He played some great up tempo trance tracks and had a toooooooon of energy. I was looking forward to him spinning the most since I've never caught a live set from him and he definitely didn't disappoint. By this point in my night my body was just crying for rest, sat in the VIP area for a bit but the music had me at my feet quickly. Plus going on straight adrenaline I KNEW the longer I remained inactive I would shutdown quickly.

Overall, great night imo. Came up with 4 other people but fortunately chatted with a ton of people (pretty much ALL TAs) and had fun. Lately, I've been "eh" about going out but BeB was just fun in almost every way so that was refreshing to say the least. Definitely looking forward to next year although I walked in able bodied and now I feel like a cripple (slightly limping because I re-injured an old injury dancing )

To his defense, Trump didn't even really look like a bum.
