ive been wanting some better control over the filters, so i found an alesis modfx philtre on ebay. which i ended up getting. i know a while back there was a big hype over them on TA. can't wait to recieve it.

I think they're as close as you can get to the A&H filters. Quality little box for a decent price, that.

man, i'm so sick of hearing this pioneer versus xone conversation. happens ever time. might as well not even start mixer threads anymore because it always turns into this.

oh and i use a djm-700

no specific reason really, although the fx filter is pretty neat. but i'll tell you why i'd use it over a xone, i just like the layout and comfort of pioneer mixers better.

so i got my alesis philtre today (btw, i have a djm-700)...got to plug it in and mess around with it for a bit...trying to get the levels right so i wont get huge volume differences.

i must say...for a tiny bit of kit...its amazing. i can really see the point of xone users and their obsessions with the filter, granted my little unit is a digital filter. anyways...there are so many different parameters to screw around with, it'll probably take me a good while to really get this thing down.

i really suggest the alesis philtre if you can get it if you want some crazy filters and crazy controls for it. just messing around with this thing for about 30 minutes makes me almost want to get a xone mixer. i knew i shouldve bought the xone:62. lol. i want my hands at some real analog filters now.

anyways...this is a great upgrade for my djm-7/800, or almost any mixer for that matter of fact.

Give me the same 10 tracks mixed twice, once on an 800, once on a 92. 99.9% of listeners couldn't tell the difference, myself included. Especially on big club systems.

Guys like cmay will mix with the best of them, on a DJM400, or my buddy Mike who spins amazing music on a shit Numark dual-CD setup.

IMO, it's preference.

One reason I'd lean away from the 800 is that they're everywhere... it's almost too logical a decision. Don't buy one to fit in.

Buying a mixer is like buying an exotic car. They all have the bells and whistles, they're all fucking fast, they'll all give you a hard on in minutes... it comes down to feel. We're talking about hyper-competitive markets here, cars or mixers, there's tons of great options out there.

i was looking at that when i used to have a 19" mixer with a coffin so i could throw it in there. after i got rid of the mixer...didnt really want to get a rack kit for my mixer. however if a&h made a filter unit the size of the alesis philtre, or something along those lines...i would snatch it up in a heart beat
