i always try to ask people, but i think it depends more on your ability just to wander off the beaten path and try shit. i have done a bit of research since i moved and have found a bunch of great places, but its really trial and error. asking people for places to eat in NYC (for example) is very hit and miss. it also depends on whom you travel with. if its just you and someone else its easy to explore. if its you and eight people you will end up at fuckin dennys or something|
