Ah..... the classic Toca Me debate!! My long suffering production partner and I debate this one at least annually. His vote goes to in petto, mine original. I like in petto's mix, but prefer the original, its the breakdown and when the kick and bass first hit over the lead riff.

Just realised I haven't voted for my history of trance tune that should be included. To me this is a classic that is always overlooked and shouldn't be. One of the tunes that got me into trance and pulled me, thankfully, away from happy hardcore!!

Three n' One - Reflect

Tocas Miracle is probably one of the most overrated shit tunes I've heard. I never understood why it was so hyped.

I think you have done a good job here of listing the true genre defining classics that stand out amongst all the others (which is what the op is after.)

Obviously the last 4 shouldnt be there but you did mention that yourself.

Yes there are probably some others that could be added. And we all have our personal classics which would be a much longer list but the above tracks really are the true classics.

Nice list!

heh, thanks. on hindsight i'd probably add greece 2000, but that's pretty much it. most of the other *big* ones i can think of can (to some extent) be represented by other names in that list, with others not really standing out enough stylewise

Indeed a nice list, but some of the following could or should be added. I think many older TA's can remember most of these (and probably there are some more...)
Although some are not being played very often these days, that doesn't mean that these were really bombs back then.
Also some/most/all tracks nowadays could go for trance. IMO Eurohouse already was close to (vocal)trance:

quote:
(and added a few..)
U96 - Das Boot (1991)
Gat Decor - Passion (1992) (first piano trance track?)
Golden Girls - Kinetic (Frank De Wulf remix) (1993)
Felix - Don't You Want Me (1992)
Cappella - Everybody (1991)
Cappella - U Got 2 Know (1992)
Quazar - The Seven Stars (1990) (trance? house)
Quazar - Last Train To Paradise (1992)
USURA - Open Your Mind (1992) (can go for trance now?)
Snap - Rhythm Is A Dancer (1992)
Snap! - The First The Last Eternity (1996)
Urban Cookie Collective - The Key, The Secret (1993)
Culture Beat - Mr. Vain (1993)
Cherry Moon Trax - The House Of House (1994)
Alien Factory - Tomorrow (1994)
Alien Factory - Destiny (1994)
Alien Factory - Get the future started (1995)
Casseopaya - Overdose (1993)
Atlantic Ocean - Waterfall (1993)
Quench - Dreams (1993)
Nikolai - Ready To Flow (1994)
Scooter - Cosmos (1994?)
RMB - Universe of Love (1993)
RMB - Redemption (1994)
RMB - Love Is An Ocean (1995)
Sash! - Encore une fois (1996)
Future Breeze - Why don't you dance with me (1996)
Antiloop - In My Mind (1997)
DJ Quicksilver - Bellissima (1997)
Hole In One - Life's Too Short (1996)
BBE - Seven Days And One Week (1996, but I had it much earlier)

By the way: Interesting to listen how the sound of Snap evolved more towards the "trance" sound....

honestly the only two from that list i'd consider adding would be gat decor & BBE. the rest are either too obscure, haven't particularly stood the test of time or are just not that relevant to the progression of trance. (that doesn't mean i'm disputing their status as classics in their own right)
