Yeah, you don't really belong in this thread since it's about intelligent discussions and all.

At the risk of nerding out, look at the history of the ANC in South Africa. The initial thinking was that only violent revolution could move the security state there - if apartheid isn't an example of a state deserving protest, what is? But in the end, Mandela abandoned the pursuit of violence in favor of a peaceful movement, and in the end it was more successful than many believed possible at the time.

Not only did the use of non-violence succeed in galvanizing opposition to the state, it also legitimized the movement itself, which is why you saw more or less coalition support behind the ANC after the end of apartheid.

In any case, the belief that guns in the hands of the populace is a good and just balance against the state is not only outdated, but extraordinarily naive and dangerous.

as well as northern ireland. they achieved far more at the ballot box and through negotiation than they did with bombs and guns. Similarly, the revolution in china will (imo) occur because of the growing middle class, infrastructure and information access, not through force of arms.

In addition, people there very strongly tend to respond to one another's reputation on that particular board instead of the credibility of what the person actually has to say.

And that's exactly what I'm trying to change

Still, I think we'd better find a way to sort that problem. I wish this kind of discussion could happen there...

One of the reasons that Tiannenman Square continues to be so iconic. There's nothing as suicidal as a regime using force against peaceful opposition.

God this thread sucks. I hate it when idiots like all of you try to sound smart. It's cringe-inducing.

Bye.

Yeah, good point. I'd be interested to know what krypton thinks arming those civilians would have achieved (asides from getting even more people slaughtered).

You're on to something here. It's much better when people have to make up stories of spending time with women outside of the internet.

You forgot about copying and pasting pictures from Failblog. I'm sure he loves threads like that too.

Making up stories. See that's what's so sad about you people. When a normal guy like me starts talking about being with women you think it's made up. It's my life.

You smell that. That's my shit.
