so, it seems like a fair number of us are at a crossroads... give up on Opera and miss seeing DJ's we love, or attend Opera and have to endure the crowd, staff, sound, etc.

i think it's time that we re-examine an old acronym that everybody knows...

i'm talking about PLUR. Yeah, I said it.

Peace- Hostility typically serves no purpose other than to defend an ego that is lacking inner peace.

Love- Acts and feelings of goodwill towards all others are a moral imperative with their own rewards.

Unity- this can mean either that: We are all united in the human condition, or
As social beings, the feeling of connectedness with others is the ultimate end to our efforts.

Respect- A person must show regard for the feelings of others through their actions and inaction, and one must have respect for oneself.

i know, I Know, this acronym probably rubs a lot of you the wrong way. i admit, it's not my fav either. there is a certain "hokiness factor" that is undeniable, but look, somebody said it in an earlier post, edm fans stateside are a minority, especially in a market like ATL.

and, in an environment like opera, anybody that is posting on TA is most definitely a minority in the crowd. let me be clear, we don't need to be all kumbaya and lovey-dovey with the patrons of opera. i do think that if we are able to adjust our internal compasses to see beyond the ridiculousness of the general crowd, maybe in the end, it will allow us to not have our serenity affected to such a degree, and in turn, be able to really enjoy/appreciate the DJs we love regardless of what the clown that's trying to walk through you is doing. Just a thought.

I get the impression a lot of folks attitudes have become very jaded about opera. i don't think you should allow the crowd to drive you away from something that means so much to you.

the sound system is a different story though.

and, i promise i will never mention the "p" word again.

My biggest problem like stated in the first post is the staff. They really do act like Gestapo. I had a VIP bracelet on that I paid 75 bones for. I go up to the VIP stairs in the back and when I go up to the bouncer he ignores me for 5 seconds, then takes out that stupid flash light they always wave around, and proceeded to check my bracelet for about 10 more seconds to make sure it was legit, pulling on every centimeter of the god damn thing. Then he opened the ropes as though I should be thanking GOD himself that I got in. What in the fuck is wrong with Opera's staff?

Another complaint that I have is the strictness on leaving the club after the show. I understand perfectly that they want to get people out of there but if the DJ is still there what is the rush. I saw Digweed up on stage after the show and none of the bouncers would let me take a picture with him even though the pathetic remnants of the crowd that was there during the show had mostly gone. He said to me. "If I let you take a picture, then everyone's gonna want a picture." THERE WAS LIKE TEN FUCKING PEOPLE IN THE CLUB. Jesus, it would be one thing if the DJ wanted to gtfo but if he's standing there enjoying himself, talking to the fans then what's the difference?!? Armin was even asking people at the end of the show to come in the booth and the bouncer's still wouldn't let some fans in. I mean come on. You pay almost 100 dollars for a VIP ticket and the least you could do is let some people into the booth that are not beautiful girls or friends of the staff to take a picture with the DJ. Let's be honest the people that are in the booth that really shouldn't be there don't even appreciate the scene as much as the DIE HARD fans that paid a shit load to get there.

I am absolutely fed up with the staff at Opera. I did however get past those bastards and got my pic with Armin. That's what it's come to. Brute force and bum rushing the booth.

Congrats on the pic.

I couldn't get my pic with Markus last September cause the staff was rushing us all out even though Markus had come down to shake all our hands. I'm hoping I can get it this time.

I was able to get to Markus on the stage before the crowd rushed up and the bouncers started kicking us out, but unfortunately didn't get a picture. At least I got a handshake. Anyways, the staff is rude when it comes to that. I guess I didn't think about that when I said I didn't have any bad experiences with them. If the DJ wants to stay and shake hands, why kick us out? At the last Ferry show, I was up by the booth, I had to pretty much tell the bouncer I wasn't leaving without a handshake. I was able to snap my quick picture, but that staff is really rude.

Nice

I got to shake his hand and talk to him for a minute up in Charlotte the following week. Unfortunately me and my friends forgot our cameras or else I'd of taken a million. <3 Markus Schulz!

The Forum's staff is really chill actually. It's a shame it isn't down here in Atlanta =/

This thread just got taken to new heights.

Also, this:

They do need to treat people with more respect and at least pretend that they appreciate our patronage. I think that the onus is on the management at that place to coach people out of their current approach and mentality. Their industry, after all, is hospitality as much as it is entertainment. If I saw or heard of a reasonable effort being made on this front, I would go to shows at Opera much more frequently.
