so, it seems like a fair number of us are at a crossroads... give up on Opera and miss seeing DJ's we love, or attend Opera and have to endure the crowd, staff, sound, etc.
i think it's time that we re-examine an old acronym that everybody knows...
i'm talking about PLUR. Yeah, I said it.
Peace- Hostility typically serves no purpose other than to defend an ego that is lacking inner peace.
Love- Acts and feelings of goodwill towards all others are a moral imperative with their own rewards.
Unity- this can mean either that: We are all united in the human condition, or
As social beings, the feeling of connectedness with others is the ultimate end to our efforts.
Respect- A person must show regard for the feelings of others through their actions and inaction, and one must have respect for oneself.
i know, I Know, this acronym probably rubs a lot of you the wrong way. i admit, it's not my fav either. there is a certain "hokiness factor" that is undeniable, but look, somebody said it in an earlier post, edm fans stateside are a minority, especially in a market like ATL.
and, in an environment like opera, anybody that is posting on TA is most definitely a minority in the crowd. let me be clear, we don't need to be all kumbaya and lovey-dovey with the patrons of opera. i do think that if we are able to adjust our internal compasses to see beyond the ridiculousness of the general crowd, maybe in the end, it will allow us to not have our serenity affected to such a degree, and in turn, be able to really enjoy/appreciate the DJs we love regardless of what the clown that's trying to walk through you is doing. Just a thought.
I get the impression a lot of folks attitudes have become very jaded about opera. i don't think you should allow the crowd to drive you away from something that means so much to you.
the sound system is a different story though.
and, i promise i will never mention the "p" word again.

Congrats on the pic.
I couldn't get my pic with Markus last September cause the staff was rushing us all out even though Markus had come down to shake all our hands. I'm hoping I can get it this time.

I was able to get to Markus on the stage before the crowd rushed up and the bouncers started kicking us out, but unfortunately didn't get a picture. At least I got a handshake. Anyways, the staff is rude when it comes to that. I guess I didn't think about that when I said I didn't have any bad experiences with them. If the DJ wants to stay and shake hands, why kick us out? At the last Ferry show, I was up by the booth, I had to pretty much tell the bouncer I wasn't leaving without a handshake. I was able to snap my quick picture, but that staff is really rude.
