Just browsed thru this thread. That Little Phatty is a beast. Can you upload a clip for me? I'm interested in overload sound. With cutoff and amp sustain set to max and resonance and overload to min. Play a saw while slowly turning the overload to max then bring the cutoff to middle and crank up the resonance.

Here you go:

Uploaded as WAV because MP3 format really shows its limitations in dealing with raw synth oscillators...

Thank you! This really shows what the overload is doing to the waveform. Also good you made it a wav - mp3 adds noise to the waveform. Amazing what this little mono synth is capable of.

The andromeda is a good synth for sure. Dont expect it to sound as phat and ear pleasing as the moog though. It isnt.

For a poly synth thats analogue i would definately reccomend the studio electronics Omega 8. Very pricy though.

The p08 is ok for the price as well although i would choose the andromeda any day of the week over it.

mrjivebogongles, have you thought about upgrading your phatty to a voyager at any point? I part-exchanged my LP for a Voyager two years ago and the Voyager is so much more versitile! Well worth doing if you have the extra cash and space.

Not really. I think I'm first going to get a polysynth for pads and atmospheres, and then hang on to that and the Phatty until I feel limited by either of them.

voyager don't have internal overdrive. also, mp3 adds noise? mp3 takes away noise to my ears. just a little bit of the high end.

If you play a raw oscillator with open filter and convert the sound to MP3 it will distort the high end. I think that's what kooma meant by "noise."

cant you generate your own "analog drums" with a sine and noise generator (+pitch mod and filters)

I meant it visually adds noise - looking at the waveform. This is an artefact of removing frequencies. It takes away the smoothness.

the simple answer: not if you want it to sound like an 808.. not the bass of the 808, thats easy. the attack. fun fact: apparently its a square. someone i know who recreated an 808 for the school he was going to told me the 808 attack is a fastly filtered square.

depends on the synth really. i can get close on my nord, but the virus hell no. you can get a "filtered 808" sound at most

heres the best ive gotten out of the nord2: http://www.sendspace.com/file/bth3ax

no processing done
