Sorry for the delay, but just getting my pix up after an unexpected trip to Home Depot since my doorknob broke...lol...all is well now, though! So onto the review...
Oh man, what a night! I couldn't believe how many TA's were at Circus...from the moment I walked in around 10 p.m. I was chatting with everyone outside until it was already time to take the TA pic at 11! Was nice catching up with everyone, but I only heard a few of DJ Robert Stern's songs (which were great)...others told me that his set really went off, though!
When Richard Durand came on, I turned to my friend and said "I feel like I'm at Trance Energy now"...It's hard to describe it, but the music took on a different sound, very European, and I liked it very much. Best of all, Richard's mixing was beyond comprehension, he would mix out of one song, then back into it and then into another other one back and forth...sometimes I wasn't even sure what the "main" track was, but everything flowed smooth as water through the canals of Amsterdam (actually, I have no idea how smooth the water flows through the canals of Amsterdam, but it sounds like a good metaphor!)
Went outside for a breather and ran into yet another friend (not a TA though), and in walked Daniel Kandi! Very nice, down to earth DJ...I immediately thanked him for putting up with America and spending 6 hours in customs to come play for us...that was 3 times as long as his set! Solid Trance tracks, and he grabbed the mic during his set to thank Above & Beyond and Armin van Buuren for helping him get through the customs nightmare, and played a good number of Anjunabeats anthems. We walked out of the club with him at 4 a.m. and chatted in the parking lot for awhile.
I learned that Denmark taxes the rich at something like 70% to equalize wealth and people are not so happy about the high levels of taxation there. I thought of my visit a few years ago to Copenhagen, when I met strangers from different countries and hung out with them like we had known each other for years. Women strolled alone on the streets at 4 a.m. like it was broad daylight, and I felt very safe while there. I even tried to tip the hotel maids when they brought me fresh towels (since I was too lazy to wake in time for them to clean the room) and received only smiles back, they were too proud to take my money! Maybe there's some good compromise, as I loved visiting that city, and very much want to go back soon!
Back to the night, I was happy to see Circus so packed, even with DJ's who are not ranked "top of the polls," but who have such a command of music with enthusiasm to match. It IS, in the end, all about the music!
