You are better off just adding a cut off time for boarding then to lie about the departure time....we are getting at the same thing but lying to customers really isn't a good way to start things off.

the problem is some people can't differentiate between clubbing and a boat party....two totally different types of parties and how you approach them should be different

But when you book a boat for the cruise, they only give you a certain you have it from right? So having people board early might be a problem if the boat doesn't actually allow people on the boat until a certain time. I'm not sure about this, but it's something the promoters should also explain if it's a reason for late boarding.

I think we are all putting in way too much thought about the politics of "partying". How about just party and stop talking

I agree with a lot of what is being said in this thread. I think we can all agree that something is wrong. And it would be beneficial to both the promoters and the crowd. I think by saying its always the same year after year, clearly some have just become accepting of the short falls that are associated with boat cruises. I personally don't go on many for the various reasons listed through out the thread, and year by year they become less and less. I do think announcements about boarding would be great... and help eliminate blame upon departure if anyone is left behind. As well I am a firm believer that an example has to be made of a few. Even be it myself. If you are late, it is your fault. It is pretty clear on the flyer (Hopefully) and with announcements it would remove most of the blame.

Regardless of Excuses i think the promoters need to step up and recognize that the is a level of quality to these boat cruises that are unsatisfactory. We are offering Ideas and opinions, and I for one would love to even see a few of these implemented this boat cruise season.

Ps. I cant wait for Sneak and Carter on a bOAT ... i <3 Demf .. i cant wait.

the things that have been said in this thread are pretty representative of boat cruise talk that I've heard amongst my friends.

I think it's a mistake for promoters to take the stance that the situation is out of their own control - again it simply makes the idea of buying tickets for a boat cruise less-appealing, (why take the risk when even the promoters doubt things can change?).

From what I know of the people involved in organizing and promoting these events, they are creative and intelligent people. A little innovation can definitely change things, (and your customers' perspective of the events' value and their enjoyment of them).

(ps. I wouldn't even complain about 30 minutes of waiting. None of the cruises I was on last year got out that early... All were an hour or more late in leaving and a few came back quite early)

MONEY TALKS

All of the responders to this post have severly valid points.

But here's the bottom line, and this is the truth.

Everyone involved in throwing these cruises is making serious $.

Until the time comes where they LOSE money (my prediciton will be at the start of august) these things won't change.

Like any change, you need a revolution....

So if you want change, don't go.....it'll effect the bottom line.

My PERSONAL opinion....

I'm not put off enough yet by the "complaints" that everyone has to NOT go and enjoy these cruises.

Take footwork, and now lily out of the equation (I hope nobody does) and the odd big event at guv, there's already NOWHERE left to go in the city....so being on a boat listening to my friends spin, and enjoying the company of like minded individuals, every sunday for a few months, still sits well with me.

Imagine we didnt have these boats to even go too......

we're one of very few cities in NA that even allow this type of thing.

I think the "stop complaining and appreciate what we have/stop taking it for granted" line is getting tired. I don't think that's what it means at all when TAs (and others) "complain". People voice their disdain for the exact opposite reason: because they're passionate about having a truly thriving scene.

Aren't the people with clout already passive enough? Like others have said, a precedent needs to be set - and at the end of the day it's not the patrons on the boat that have the power to lead that change.

Furthermore, it should not have to come down to the people that actually value and respect what Toronto's got to stay off the boat. What kind of logic is that?? No, the motherfuckers that RUIN IT for everyone else should have to stay off the damn boat.

Like come on!!

::: A Message from BEATS AHOY! :::

So here is the truth about late departures on boat cruises.. We want to do everything we can to leave on time. Unfortunately a few bad apples spoil the bunch and the cruise companies have been aggressively supervised by the AGCO and Toronto Police because some patrons do drugs or drink too much on the cruises. The cruise companies, in effort to protect their liquor licenses and the safety of everyone on board, are spending more time processing people to get on the boats. And rightfully so. This means thorough searches upon boarding because some people can't figure out where to draw the line. It's an unfortunate situation, but we support their efforts because people who get out of control, ultimately ruin the fun for everyone else. We do not enjoy the negative reviews and publicity from these incidents. We don't enjoy watching people overdose on drugs or alcohol. We especially don't enjoy having unsatisfied customers after working hard to present what we think will be a special day under the sun.

So what has been happening is that the late comers keep making the line up to be processed longer by jumping in late. Say there are 2 more people to get on board.. then a group of 10 runs around the corner and they now need to get on, then 5 more.. and so on. It doesn't end until everyone on board is already pissed that the boat is leaving late. So the people who show up on time get punished for being on time, and the people who come late think it's cute that the boat waited for them.

You're fed up, so are we.

This year, Beats Ahoy! will be implementing a wristband boarding policy. Everyone will receive a wristband upon arrival to the dock (the parking lot is not the dock!). We will give these out until boarding is closed. Anyone arriving after the boarding time will not receive a band and will not be allowed to board the boat. No exceptions. You will not be allowed to leave the docking area once you've received a wrist band. Get on the damn boat, and let's get to it! The cruise companies will be supporting us in our efforts to leave promptly, just as we support theirs in keeping people safe. Please spread the word and help us help you have maximum fun this summer!!

That said.. here are some other things to consider for cruises this summer..

- Avoid bringing purses and backpacks. These items are subject to searches and slow down the boarding process significantly. If you must bring extra clothing etc, consider sharing a pack with someone else in your group.

- Different boats have different policies, but bottled liquids are generally not permitted. THIS INCLUDES SUNSCREEN on some boats (River Gambler for example). But don't fret.. BEATS AHOY! cruises will always have sunscreen available for you if you need it. Check near the dj booths or ask a crew member to grab some for you from the Captains deck. We'll have some available at both spots. You can always ask a host to help you too.

- Enjoy yourself RESPONSIBLY and remind your group of this. Don't over do it. Drink lots of water. Remember you're in the sun, not in a club at night. If you know someone overdoing it before the cruise, chances are they're going to mess things up for everyone else once we leave port. Remind them to be smart & safe.

Looking forward to seeing you out May 30 & Canada Day! Make sure you show up on time.. tardiness wont be tolerated this year!

- Joel & the Beats Ahoy! crew

its like at work, or anywhere else.

Make a rule.

Enforce it consistently and fairly.

Be soft? Get pushed around, rules bend, and eventually fade away. It seems to be what has happened over the last few years... more cruises, more competition, more trying to be nice (which I get, but for one person happy...)

If someone gets the shit together this year and leaves ON TIME word will SPREAD FAST. That and some good weather and we will have some great cruises again.

I remember last year before demi... maybe 1.5 hours late... no booze or anything being served. The vibe was pre-riot like. LOL

I remember running at 1115 to be at a dock for a 12pm cruise.
