I find your assertion that the US spends money on defence so the rest of us don’t to be largely nonsense, simply because the US’ main priority with defence spending is the furthering of its own interests, and if they happen to coincide with the interests of other nations, that is coincidental. Indeed I can think of a few areas where those interests have been downright harmful to your “allies”. I find your implied comparison between yourself and RAND to be quite laughable. You have absolutely no metric (either professional or educational) to measure your knowledge and opinion by, and I do not find your history of posts to indicate being particularly trustworthy with regards to making reasonable inferences/analyses from information provided (Trancer-X was also a “huge” reader.) I might be unfair in this analysis, but I am simply working with what you have given me over the last few years.

All I said is that if the US didn't have such a capable military, other nations that have relied on us in the past, or could rely on us in the future would be spending more on their domestic forces. Where is the fallacy in that?

Our regional activities have had little or no subsidisation from the US or the UK, other than you to sell us second hand shit you don’t want any more. My point was that if the US played no roll in the Oceanic region (which it would, if there was a major issue) then Australia wouldn't be buying second hand shit from us, but procuring new weapons systems on their own. The fact that they buy second hand shit from us pretty much goes on to prove that...
