I shall, but it's around new year and lots of people are on holiday. I'm doing it first thing on the new year. Yeh my life's going to get a lot easier once I move out. I could easily mention concrete examples (like the food shopping thing or the plates thing) to a psychologist to get their assesment of whether I can live at home or not (since that's usually how it works with centrelink). I don't like talking to psychs but money is money and that's what I'm going to have to do. I'm certainly not telling them all about my relationship with my gf or everything that makes me unhappy in life. I'll just stick to relevent home life details until I get the rubber stamp saying "it's ok for you to move out from home" (p.s. why the fuck do I even need to do this, fucking neo liberals).

I mean, there is always the option of working at mcdonalds all my life or similar... but I don't think anyone even wants that for me (apart from certain young and economically naive right wing assholes on facebook). If I successfully complete my whatever, and become a full time IT guy, electrician or scientist (that's my 3 career preferences in order) then I'm going to be paying way more tax over my life than I'd ever recieved in welfare as a student.

You won't need to talk to a psych at centrelink, at all, and they don't care about your GF unless you live with her, because combined income effects your payments. Unless you are married/de facto, they class you as single. They will [possibly] want to talk to your mum to confirm that you can't live at home, but like I said, if she moves interstate, then it won't even be an issue. So, maybe hope for that option

I've heard of people's parents being manipulative when centrelink calls to ask that sortof question; but I'm pretty sure she'll either say she can't afford it, claim I've been bullying her (apparently calling her an idiot when she tries to rob me counts as bullying now) or attempt to manipulate them successfully for a while but i doubt that act could work for more than a week or two. I'm not gonna rely on her moving interstate, I'm simply going to go for the "cannot live at home" option.

http://www.humanservices.gov.au/cus...youth-allowance

According to that, I could quite possibly show that I'm independent, concidering that I worked for 5 months and had to pay for my own food etc, some of which my mum inappropriately hijacked.

I should be able to get either

single, with no children, 18 years or more, and required to live away from home (201.5 per week)
or
Aus study... which effectively allows me to earn a lot more even though the base payment is the same. In fact I'm pretty sure I was always eligible for this... which potentially means the government owes me something in the region of $1500+ if I can prove it. It might be a bit difficult to get money out of centrelink for the reason of "being deliberately mislead"... but we shall see. I most definitely was, I was eligible since I was studying a full time approved course (if it's an advanced diploma... ofcourse it's approved).

For everyone who doesn't like darkpsy properly (especially ziptnf)

This thread is like an episode of Saved By The Bell, except in this version the kids are unpopular and on welfare.

If you don't know what your mum will say, then be careful. Is she receiving centrelink payments? If she is, then you may be listed as a "dependent" for her, so if you were to no longer be living with her, she would not continue to get the same rate of payments based on having a "dependent" to support. She might not like that. Sorry if I appear to be casting dispersions on your mother here, that's not my point or intention, just laying things out as I know them.

I've been though the centrelink game, and due to the shitty economy, I have a few friends doing it all over again right now, as students/unemployed folks.

Also, if you're looking specifically at "Austudy" then check what age it covers. I forget how old you are (19?) so it may have to be Youth Allowance, rather than Austudy.

You're gauranteed to get austudy above a certain age but you can get it if you're 16+ and fulfil certain conditions. Being 19, studying an advanced diploma course and not being able to live at home would qualify. I have a friend who's on it and who's 20 but her circumstances are much more clearcut (she's actually been through foster care due to physical abuse). She may have been granted an exception, but I'm pretty sure the site says that I can get if I'm studying full time(an approved course), 19 and living away from home. Regardless, the only difference in payment is when I actually have a job, and the difference is every dollar I earn at work will be 50 cents if I'm youth allowance but it'll be a full dollar if I'm on austudy (assuming I work less than 10.5 hours a week or so).

Neo liberal is what it is. Go look it up you lazy shit. If you're just going to offer stupid retorts like that, then I offer you a challenge. Accurately and in detail explain the difference between 1800s style conservatism and modern conservatism in a single sentence. Alternatively, you could settle for being too stupid and or lazy to discuss politics which I think is the more appropriate option.

Ya, that's my plan, thanks for the advice btw. Wasn't expecting some useful insight on any particular topic to actually come from here. I guess it really depends on who's posting it.

It's no prob. Been there, done that, so I'm happy to share.

I won't derail things here any further (assuming that was even possible?). PM me if you want.

This thread is now about... the mix, and dark psy
