Unfortunately my friend you have, and as with most Americans you don't know it. I will give you one example among many. Have you ever heard of General Pinochet? Pinochet was a right wing military dictator in Chile. He was in power for years and had the country in a brutally tight grip. Thousands of people were assassinated.
In any case Pinochet overthrew a left wing democratic government lead by president Salvadore Allende in 1973. Obviously in 1973, at the height of the cold war, the United States was uneasy with any socialist government. They found Pinochet, trained him in America through the CIA, and sent him back to Chile to overthrow the government. Pinochet stayed in power until 1990. A ferocious dictator for 17 years while your government conveniently sat by and watched as thousands of chileans were slaughtered. The sad part is that this happened in many Latin American countries that had democraticaly elected governments. It happened, it happened alot, and in some cases it happened recently.

I know you probably dont believe it, but its true. If you don't like foreigners calling you ignorant take some innitiative, do some reading and lay off the CNN. If you are looking for some bedtime reading look for an author named Noam Chomsky a very popular and highly respected critic of the American foreign policy.

i know who chomsky is and i dont watch cnn...i watch a greek news station on satelite becuase it is basically uncensored and gives me a chance to see different opinion of american affairs. i do watch hannity and combs which is a debate show on FOX news. hannity is a conservative and combs is a liberal..its a great show and demonstates opposite viws to the same issues. i also am aware of what went on in the height of the cold war in latin american countries...i know about nixon and kissingers involvement in the overthrowing of the chilean government..but it was a communist government..not a left wing democracy. that also took place after the cuban missle crisis where america was scared of any russian involement in countries so close to us. we also put castro and noriega in power. we tried a period of isolationism right after WWI..it didnt work..and it definately wont work in this day and age. every major country benefits from global stabilty.

i am not here to defend every political decission that US has made..i cant..things we have done are sometimes wrong. like i said before..i am not a bush supporter..i am just trying to get people who are bashing american citizens for the actions of its government to stop. the polls show that the US is torn...the amount of people who want to go to war and the amount of people that dont are about even.
