Well Dance Valley's come and gone. Weather definitely was a pretty major dampener this year. There'd been really nice weather for the 2 weeks preceeding even the day before but on Friday it rained, and it rained a lot. Saturday was better but still you had to wade through a fair bit of mud to get from tent to tent.
Nevertheless there was still great music played. Only real mentions on the Friday were Eric Prydz and Above & Beyond who rocked the shop once again. Saw Alter Ego live, they were average, so was Carl Cox. Got to see Agoria for the first time which was something special - bits and pieces were good but he played a bit too electroey (I guess since he was booked for "electronation"). Some others too.
On Saturday the sun came out and the music just like at Global Gathering was a lot better than the Friday. Music kicked off at 10am but we didn't get started till about midday. Mischa Daniels - fucking awesome Dutch house dj. Played on the Armada stage (Armin's booking a lot more house). Really funky and uplifting without being cheesy, some really choice tracks and it was only midday. Then caught two Detroit techno legends: Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson. May definitely killed it but Saunderson was fairly average. Next saw the mid to end of Sasha's set which was pretty good, ended off with his edit of the original mix of underworld - Jumbo (just like Underworld @ GKGG - but that was live). Saw the end of Randy Katana - average. Next Nu NRG came in with 40 minutes of pumping madness, starting off with Streets have no name, they played some choice tracks and finished off with their 100th mix of Dreamland. Adam Sheridan was pretty cool, so was Chis Lawrence. Atmosphere at Armin was electric and music was good. Went to main stage in the valley and saw Ferry, pretty good - Galaxia pwned. PvD ended it in the dark with the lasers. Dropped For an Angel last and then encored with Nothing But You - massive. Music ended at 11 pm though which kinda sucked. One of my friends had earlier got over 200 euros worth of drink tokens given to him for free by some random dude - this ensured I remained well drunk throughout the day and night.
Met a lot of Aussies there too. Overall I'd have to say that if it wasn't for the weather Dance Valley definitely would have been better than Global Gathering - it's got waaay better organisation (especially in the campsite department). But Global also took the edge coz on the Saturday the music went till 6am not 11pm. However Dutch clubbers are much better than the Brits.
So in short, just go to both and see for yourself...
I go home on the Friday to face another semester of university - w00t. Pics when I get back.
