well actually, as late as the 1970s 18 yr olds could still drink. Wyoming was the last state to legally allow that age (tho places like NOLA make the law somewhat redundant).
how does the govt enforce drinking ages? by withholding highway funds if you disobey!
its shitty, but not some archaic thing out to fuck you. sure, the religious undertones contained within the law might be unsettling, but then again you can always visit other countries. countries where there is no drinking law - or others that maintain much more expensive or restrictive policies. and i know that drinking may not just be what you are after, but you can draw parallels with openness to drinking and these kind of parties|
