Re: Kickstartin vinyl collection

I've seached the forums for this one and I can't find any sort of advice to do this. A redirect would work. Anyway for the question: So, lots of you now got a good number of vinyls you buy through your addictions and what have you - through periods of time : however is there a way where you can "kickstart" your vinyl collection by buying many at a time "in bulk". Will record shops give you deals? Any advice on this subject would be very helpful. |
Woah, woah, woah, hold on a second there!! JohnSmith and the others are absolutely correct. Let me give you my take on this:
I highly recommend, as a fellow DJ ( ), not to buy records in bulk or, in a word, not to buy them thoughtlessly. The records you buy is what makes your style! Don't go around getting the massive bulk deals 'cuz I bet you won't like at least half of the stuff there.
I know you're impatient and want to start ASAP (We all go through that phase), but it is best to keep your head cool and slowly build up your collection. (Your wallet will thank you, trust me!!!!!!!)
Go out to your local shops, browse quality online stores such as www.chemical-records.co.uk or www.juno.co.uk, and buy a few records at a time. The key is that you get what you want to spin! Music that you love!
The criterion I set for myself is this - if, during the previewing of a song, I feel an instant tug, or my heart leaps, or there is any other indication like that - not to mention if I start bobbing my head - then that means that vinyl is for me. If it doesn't cause this, no matter how uncertain I am, I have to put it back, if for no other reason than the $$$ issue. Diminishing returns: it isn't worth getting a record that you only half-like, for the full price of another record that you would potentially really like.
Eventually you will have the debt piling up (if the addiction gets to you, that is, and it most certainly will) and you'll see for yourself that it isn't worth getting just any old record.
Happy shopping and good luck! Enjoy
