Arrow This annoying "Beeep" sound on my PC! please help

recently I have some kind of a problem on my PC
I use my PC & suddenely , he stuck , nothing moving & there is a "beeep" sound all the time. I have to turn it down & then to turn it on again.Usually Soulseek is on when it happens.

I read in one site that RIAA want to send to users that sharing MP3z some kind of a virus or something.
Anybody have a clue what's up with that?

1) Faulty drivers. Been installing any new software lately?
2) Bad OS. Win 98 in particular is notorious for this kind of crashing.
3) Faulty hardware. Possibly memory related.
4) Overclocking has made your PC unstable.
5) Virus (there's always a possibility...)

you should.. there are some big nasty security holes in xp that have been fixed.

you'll need to install service pack 1 before you can get any updates though.. and if your copy of xp isn't 'official' it's a bit of an arse. if you can't do it, pm me and i will send you the required stuff.

as fray (goldenarmz) said there are a wide number of secuirty holes fixed, as well as fixing bugs that have been discovered since the release of XP. the only update that checks the registration is service pack 1.

I usually hit cancel when XP offers me to install updates but I've been told that they can be pretty useful.. I'm just too lazy to do it every time and they pop up very often.

Guess these tons of updates are the first consequence for beta-testing XP with users instead of debugging it beforehand
