Try some anti static spray. That solution is great, but if you are spinning the record while cleaning, it creates static electricity and that attracts the dust. Either as you take it off or put it on, the dust comes near it and is attracted to the vinyl. Unless your place is completely free of dust (which is impossible) its just something you have to deal with. Just clean the record off before you play it with a little record pad. (similar to a lint pad) and you are good to go.

Paul van Dyk just rubs his records across his shirt before he lays them on the table, but I doubt that's a good practice to imitate.

Now I'm finding out after I brush my needle and clear it from the dust its fine but than at about a half a track later the fuckin sound seems a little distorted. Is it time for new needles?

Ha, I was spinning in front of my girlfriend the other day and everytime I was about to put a new record on she would do the motion as if she was wiping the record on her shirt simotaneously as I was really doing it. I do this everytime, religiously, so much I don't even know it anymore. Thats the only thing I do to keep dust off my needles, that, and when I put the record on, I take the bottom of my shirt and wipe it down as its spinning before I put the needle on. Thats just me!

peace,

Steve

I usually put the record on the TT and then i let it spin while i'm keeping a VERY VERY soft brush over the record. all the dust comes off.

i use gruv-glide alot becuase it gets my records very clean and spotless of fingerprints and stuff. also...how do you store your records? i had a friend who was storing his with the open side facing up and i think thats not very good. when i get a new record i put a sleeve in it if there isnt already one and then i use compressed air to blow out all the dust. i keep the open side to the side and when im spinning i prop it up diagonally... record brushes seem to do the trick for just dust but too many finger prints annoy the hell out of me. and yes i am aware that gruv-glide is meant to be a one time treatment but still...

as far as the sound goes try messing wtih the counterweight it may either be to heavy or most likely too light. if that doesnt work then yeah maybe its time for a new cartridge or even just a new needle

I'm keeping the opening up too... 'cuz otherwise, when i'm hurried, i let the records drop. And that's even worse than storing them with the opening up.

The most important thing about storing is that you store the records verticaly. (to avoid bending)
Now, it's also very important to keep the records in a stable environnement: No sudden big temperature changements, or sudden changes in humidity.

That's about all you need to know about storing...

Don't lean a bag of records against the radiator.... it tends to do bad things....

use GRUV-GLIDE ANTI-STATIC RECORD CLEANER......you don't even have to use the spray all the time. Just keep the cleaning pad handy and just wipe dust off....it's simple as that
