Do you guys have any tips in how to make a fat bassdrum like DuMonde, Cosmic Gate, Dave 202, Drunken DJs etc. in reason?

Do they work with layers or something like that? 2 bassdrums or so?

So far I tried loading a standard bd909.wav, added 2 EQ and 1 compressor, but all I achieve is a harder almost clipping bassdrum which doesn't sound really great, if I put the attack on the compressor very low, then the sound is a bit better, but I miss that 'warm' sound in the bass. So does anyone know what are the ideal settings on the EQs for Freq, Q and Gain and on the compressor for a fat warm hard bassdrum?

Very good question. I want to know that too.

But I think what many artists do is couple a kick with some kind of a snare. That makes the kick especially hard. If you listen to Rocco's remixes or productions, for instance, you'll probably hear kicks that are actually kick+snare combos. or maybe kick + another kind of kick.

Precisely what kind of kick or snare, I'm not sure.
We'll have to wait for input from other TAs on that, I guess...

i belive they use two kicks, one for the lows and one for the highs, and the high one with a bit of reverb or a small delay... thats what i do anyway

try layering up more samples, doesnt` have 2 be kicks only.
just play around and ull get something nice, it works with me so

well, every kick is different, so the way of building them is different aswell

just try 2 start with a basic, "low" kick for a base.
then try 2 find some percussion samples with some high "clicks" just as u hear in a lot of tracks
layer these 2, and start equalising a bit till it sounds right

i cant explain it better, coz its really a matter of playing around a bit the way i do it

I have also tried Waldorf Attack for kicks, and that works good as well. Like the others have said layering can be quite effective and along with precise eqing and compressing it can do wonders. I think that getting a suitable kick and a bassline that works along it are the two elements that often carry a track, so it's important to use some time to make it work.

I consider a high pass filter one of the most important tools when creating layers for a kick.

for example, one pretty dull kick out of the box

And then another nice (sampled?) kick which you filter some low out so it doesn't mess up the bass body of the other layer

Try using kicks from the sample cd "Trance and Techno by Dave Laurent". The kick drums on it are the hardest i've come across ever.
