Drunk n00b question

Well, I've been DJ'ing for a while and I thought that it was time to start and try to make my own music

So I got cubase VST 5.0, Absynth 1.3 and Z3ta+, I installed all these programs but now I have a problem.

When I make a midi channel, and try to play it with my soundcard as an instrument, then I hear the piano playing. Now when I select Z3ta or Absynth as instruments, I hear absolutely nothing (and yes, I selected a preset in these softsynths).

Anybody have a suggestion?

Thanx!

Have you tried using the Absynth keyboard? Does that make any sound? Try opening the mixer and look for the Absynth channels - does anything register on them at all? Are they turned up?

open up absynth by itself (without cubase running) and see if it works then. You may still have to configure your soundcard settings for these programs

When I open up absynth standalone it works fine, but when I turn it on in Cubase and press edit, I hear nothing when I touch a key. Very strange!
When I look in cubase, the pattern should make a sound (the sound bar pattern on the left is going up and down)
