This is moving away a lot from trance, but keeping within the whole dance genre.
Madonna's song, "Music", which so many people are classifying as dance and many rating it the top dance track of the year, worries me.
1) Is it dance? or rather a very danceable pop track?
2) Top dance track, ~~ shudder ~~, the lack of education among the masses. Is this were we're going, mainstream music winning over the "more progressive / underground" music. I'm using this description as music off mainstream.
Your trancEaddict'd thoughts?

I really think this is a just a catchy pop track or some crap like that. Just download the insrumental version from napster of it- does it sound like something you would consider as dance music? i dont think so, it really does sound like a catchy pop tune...
i think if this is a "top dance track" to many.. yep.. this is definitely the (uneducated) masses talking about mainstream dance. but to say it will "win" over the current sounds of the underground for dance music? this is an arguement i rather not go into right now. its gets complicated for me.

What really annoys me is that she is #1 on the electronic-music charts @ mp3.com. WTF?? This is a site that in my opinion, should be showcasing new and emerging artists to the world. How the f*ck are even the best indie electronic artists on mp3.com going compete with a pop-superstar like madonna for the #1 spot?? just look at this: http://genres.mp3.com/music/electronic/.
.. madonna's "music" song isn't electronic music, to me at least. even if it does incorporate sounds (re)created with electronics... much of rap/hiphop and even alot of pop's melodies n'beats are created using electronics/midi/samplers too... and do you classify those genres under electronic music? nope!
and WTF? i thought madonna hated mp3 (or was it just napster?)

And my favourite Timo Maas just remixed her new track???I dunno I dun like any of her recent tracks I rather hear "holiday" than "music" or the new track with the hot cowboys =)!! anyways, I agree wtf is she doing on mp3.com! Especially on the electronic charts!! I dunno I think dance music must have broadened greatly.. I think Madonna's cool for trying new stuff but it doesn't work for her, look at Dido for instance.. she's a singer and you hear electronic stuff on her tracks too(rollo's sister isn't she?) but it works and sounds wicked!!!
hehe that's it for now..
latez!

The song music is considered the dance song of the year because...lets face it ravers are outnumbered by people who like pop music. Therefore what the popers consider the best dance song od the year...is. Not that it is in my opinion.

Agreed, there's definitely so much better stuff out there, but it ain't mainstream, i.e. for your average "Joe Smith" to listen to. [apologies if such a person is on this board ) ]
