Direct all of your newcastle rlated topics into this thread.

I read the other day that freddy sheperd has stated that newcastle will only being purchasing 1 more player this season. This purchase will only take place if newcastle qualify for the champions league.

We need a right back. I think we should try to get Mills from Leeds on the cheap. He had a bit of a crap season last season but apparently that was due to personal problems. Leeds are having a bit of a clearance sale anyway, and we need to close the gap on Man Utd and Arsenal.

Other than that, I don't think we should unsettle our squad with loads of new faces. I'm glad Newcastle are excercising some restraint in the transfer market.

Last season we got off to a bad start and spent the whole season playing catch-up, but if we can get at least 4 points from our first 2 games (Leeds away, Man U at home) I'll be happy.

Our 5 transfer listed players don't seem to be generating any interest, btw.

I just saw on Sky Sports News this morning that danny mills has just signed a five year contract.

I hope so, but we've been linked with every player under the sun this summer. I'll believe it when I see it. I think he recently signed a 5 year deal with Leeds.

I'm not Mills' biggest fan, but there aren't many quality defenders (espescially not British ones) on the market at the moment and given Leeds financial situation he'd probably be quite cheap. He can be a pretty foul tackler though, which would only add to our growing reputation as a team of thugs.

There's also rumours in the papers we're after Michael Bridges, but I doubt there's any truth in that.

A source at Newcastle has told the Evening Chronicle that we don't want to sell Dyer but everyone has their price and his is £25M.

Bobby Robson said: "As far I'm concerned there's not an inkling of truth in it. It's a fabricated story. That's my feeling about it."

Dyer's agent described the rumours as "just paper talk".

Not a bad game today, although I was hoping we'd batter the shit out of them.

In the first half our midfield was top class, the brummies were struggling to keep it in our half and we constantly had them on the back foot. After Speed and Bowyer were subbed it went downhill a bit and they came into the second half with some decent chances. Harper's handling looked a bit dodgy. Both penalties were fully deserved, as was the red card. Stern John's miss was fucking hilarious

Viana scored from 25 yards out a second after the final whistle went, but it wasn't counted. Was nice to see Shola get a goal (awesome cross from Bellers) and Cort get a feature (even if it was only the last 5 minutes).

Chelsea should make easy work of Malaysia tommorow and play it out with Birmingham on Saturday. I hope we can stamp down our authority with a good win over Chelsea, so we can start the season on a high.

Howay the lads.

Champs League Draw:

Newcastle will play either Partizan Belgrade or Djurgarden.

That's probably Partizan then. Partizan also play in black and white stripes and have some mental supporters. Wish I could afford a trip to Belgrade if we play them, it'll be mental!

Djurgarden are from Stockholm and drew 0-0 with West Ham in a friendly.

Our first game is away. It won't be easy but it could have been worse, we could have got someone tricky like Benfica.

Here's a full list of the 3rd round qualifying round:

CSKA Moscow or Vardar v Sparta Prague
MTK Budapest or HJK Helsinki v Kaunas or CELTIC
RANGERS v FC Copenhagen or Sliema Wanderers
Austria Vienna v Marseille
Club Brugge v Borussia Dortmund
Sheriff Tiraspol or Shakhtar Donetsk v Lokomotiv Moscow
Lazio v Benfica
Dynamo Kiev v Maribor or Dinamo Zagreb
Bohemian or Rosenborg v Deportivo La Coruna
Grasshoppers v AEK Athens
Zilina or Maccabi Tel Aviv v CHELSEA
Celta Vigo v Leotar or Slavia Prague
Partizan Belgrade or Djurgarden v NEWCASTLE
Galatasaray v Pyunik or CSKA Sofia
Rapid Bucharest or Anderlecht v Wisla Krakow or Omonia
Tirana or Grazer AK v Ajax

Phillipe, Phillipe Albert!
Everyone knows his name...

Phillipe Albert scored the 5th goal against Man Utd, lobbing Schmeichel when we hammered them 5-0. I think it's safe to say noone here has forgotten him

FF is in LA securing a "major deal" according to Sky Sports. He's booked into the same hotel as Man Utd chairman Peter Kenyon, but Kenyon denies that Freddy's presence has anything to do with them.

Meanwhile in Kuala Lumpur, Newcastle and Chelsea are booked into the same hotel, meaning our and their top brass will no doubt come into contact.

Are we after someone, or is this all incidental?

FORZA DIF!

I hope we beat Partizan and get to play the game against Newcastle in the third round. It wont be easy, especially considering the tough awaygame in Belgrad, but I believe we have a really good squad, incredible for being a swedish team. You never know, Helsinborg, another swedish team, was able to knock Inter out of the qualifiers two seasons ago. To meet Newcastle, with their great suport and top squad with players like Shearer, Bellamy, Dyer, Robert etc would be amazing. And we were in the first division only three seasons ago!

Djurgården plays the "Ajax model" (4-2-1-3) and very offensive for a swedish team.

If we do meet look out for these players:

Kim Källström - Swedens biggest talent and without a doubt the best player in allsvenskan. great vision and passing ability. Works hard. Great shot and good at freekicks. Regular in the national team nowadays, has already scored 10 goals in 15 games from midfield this season. Only a matter of time before he leaves us for professional football in Europe.

Andreas Isaksson - 22 years. First keeper in the national team. Great reflexes, agility and reach. Only weakness is that he's a bit bad with his feet. Used to belong to Juventus, but came home because of the hard competition for places there.

Jesper Blomqvist - If he comes back to form. Just signed from Charlton. Used to play with Man Utd, Parma, Milan etc.. Could be great again, but has alot of problems with injuries.

Toni Kuivasto - New signing from a Norwegian club, I dont remember which tho. 40 caps for Finland and has had a marvelous start at the club. Strong, tough tackler. Good heading ability.

Hope someone found this post interesting. haha
