Thinking about building a Dj booth/ Studio...

Hey guys,

Heres the deal. My parents hate my music so I can never play it loud and sometimes not at all. On top of that I am starting to get into producing and I have NO room for equipment in my bedroom where my computer and tables are.

So, what I was thinking of doing is building a studio outside. BUilding almost another room, in the place of where my old tree house is. The treehouse isn't used anymore and its under trees so it would be shaded and cool. I think it would be a good place to bring a friend or two just to chill. Throw a couch in there, the computer so i can record and produce and the tables and whatever equipment I will buy later.

If I do go through with this it will be done right, it will basically be a mini house, propper roof, a little insulation, dry wall, proper door locks, etc.

Do you guys think this is a good idea? IF I'm going to take this Dj/producer stuff seriously (which I want to) I think this is a good option for me. What do you guys think?

~Seany G

lol, actually I have thought about the same thing. To put all my stuff in the 'gardening house'. Problem would be that all the gardening stuff is there, together with lots of spiders and other unidentified objects. Biggest problem would off course be that there is no electricity

But for now my parents don't complain (much) about my music being too loud, and I've got the whole house for me alone on regular bases . But I'm running out of space and I want to add another turntable to my setup in about a month, I'll have to move a cdj100 but I have no idea where to put it, and still be able to comfortably reach it

So who knows, if things stay seriously than maybe in about 6 months or so I could possibly convince my parents to give me the gardening house (or build me something new, there's space enough in the garden )

As for you, if that place is available, than I wouldn't think too long about it, do it! (think about the chicks and your privacy )

do u have a basement?? climate controlled of course... if you do then just transform the basement into a studio. alot easier then building a whole new cabin for your equipment. you can even build a wall to divide the basement in half so that you can use one half as your studio and the other half for whatever(storage, furnished).

yea, sounds like a great idea!! your own little sound-shack!!
I'm turing my room into that, soI don't need to build anything except a DJ table.

I'm sure you can hit the local hardware store, and tell them what kind of structure you're making and they'll give you everything you need. Just keep withink reasonable budget. Don't spend thousands. although I don't know how much drywall and insulation will cost, or shingles, or heating, or electrical connections. and yea, get a damn good lock.

Also, be sure to soundproof it!! Oh and make sure your parents don't intend to move to another home unless you get to keep the property, otherwise it's all to waste when u leave.

That sounds like an awesome idea though (the shack, not the earplugs ) I'm assuming you['re gonna go and figure out about how much it'll cost to do....let us know when you do.

Yea for the DJ table setup, I've already got a 400 budget. The lumber I'm getting is only for the frame and the table top is some really cool composite mushy lumber that sort of absorbs vibration. I'm already drawing up blueprints. But so far I'll have to get rid of 1 piece of furniture... my computer desk, which would suck. I'm sure you could keep the loud-shack under $2000 if you plan it right.
