Vacaville, just north of Fairfield. Wine country. I actually have a friend who lives up there - love the area, but it can be hot. real hot. I'm a Florida-native and since it's typically dry here the heat doesn't bother me TOO much, but just lettin' ya know.

Vacaville is actually a little ways from SF, maybe an hour with good driving conditions, who knows how long if traffic is backed up (have I mentioned this area has the second worst traffic in the US, only behind Seattle?). I would not recommend living in SF and trying to commute to Vacaville and back every day if it's a typical 9-5 job. The traffic would kill your commute time. The friend I know used to work here and he actually gave up and started driving to a subway stop (30 minutes from Vacaville?) and taking the subway into the city. And eastbay is so bad, I can't really recommend anywhere. El Cerrito (just north of Berkeley, CA) isn't too bad for living, though. Neither is Berkeley.

I've been all around the world but have actually never been to New York despite the many chances I have had to go for work -- I dunno why, I think I'd love it if NY is just a bigger London as it's often described to me.

OK, now I'm just rambling...so I'll stopped. My point is that I have no idea what the east village of NYC is like.

I just realized that I wrote all that and have not really helped out at all. *sigh*

Dave

hmmm... the girl i am replacing said she stayed at a hotel in SF when she was working there and it took 45 min. i guess i need to figure out where she was staying and work from there.

the east village is next to greenwich village. in comparison to london, greenwich village is like notting hill. but the east village is less touristy and has better lounges and restaurants. and it is cheaper.

are there a lot of SFTAs?

Lot of us in the bay area, although I actually don't know if anyone other than me actually lives in the city.

With traffic, it actually might not be so bad because you'd probably be reverse-commuting (eg. you leaving SF while everyone else is trying to getinto it) . The girl you are replacing probably has a better idea than I do.

Dave <---- Has no car, but you don't need one if you live int he city.

so what neighborhood are nice? like with a lot of young people and lounges and stuff. i dont like living in super upscale areas, or the ghetto. i like semi-trendy but not totally full of hipsters with no individuality.
