I thought it was awesome. A little complicated, but simply awesome. I watched the entire series in one day, I even got emotional at the end!

lain is a great, yet confusing series that you will probably need to watch another time to understand it.

Texhnolyze (probably the closest to the mindfuck thing, really really dark)
NieA Under 7- not dark at all, but same creator
Haibane Renmai- another non-dark, really good series

Boogiepop Phantom - many people that like lain also like BP.. not the same creator, though.
