BASICALLY, ATI ONLY WORKS WELL WITH 2 OPERATING SYSTEMS, THAT IS:
WINDOWS 2000
WINDOWS XP
AND ALL OTHER OS's are ignored, it does work in 98SE and ME, but extremely crapily, even with your 3.7 or Omega drivers, same shit.
NOW, ATI makes a lot of mobile graphics from 7500 and on, and they give 0 support on them, they simply don't give a fuck about the customers.
Now, their cards are unusable even in Windows 2000 Server or in Windows 2003 Server, simply no fucking support whatsoever.
Bottom line, with ATI you get stuck on 2 OS's, and the lack of any support for LINUX and most other Windows OSs makes this card in 99.9% useless.
Now about heating up, the 9700 Pro and 9800 Pro heat up like a mother******, and don't argue, these cards are super hot, esp if u play for straight 8 hours.
Taking everything in consideration, nVidia is competing very well. |
what have u been smoking or living under? nvidia shot itself in there foot many many times this year. they "cheat" on 3dmark03 not once, twice or thrice but 4 or 5 times. they denied they were cheating on lots of benchmarks. when futuremark found both companies were cheating ati admitted it and removed it while nvidia denied it an called it "optimization" and "bride" futuremark about there cheating. they even brag about 3dmark03 in there conference called even tho they dont believe in it that much . they linux because not many people game on them or just htem as much. its call supply and demand. you get to stuck on mostly 1 platform for nvidia too. thats where the money is for the big two.
ati have been in the mobile and server business alot longer than nvidia. there cards are much more optimize for laptops and faster than nvidias. even games with Nvidia logo's are perform much better than nvidias.
tomshardware is not as reliable as it was. he used standard benchmark that everyone useds and that are optimized easily by nvidia. in real games, nvidia loses more than 70% of them. go check out recent reviews on gamepc.com, beyond3d.com ( real programmers go chat in the forums, very techinical), hardocp. they show nvidia lossing in real games
radeons are not hot. they are cool and more mature than nvidias. my 9700np oc to 400/300 with no problem at all. much better buy than any FX card out there and back.
