Hey all, new to this board...
I've been spinning just barely 7 months now and I had mixing down enough that I've made some recordings of myself so I can listen to me play. For some reason after my last recording, about 3 weeks ago, I canNOT for the life of me beat match anymore, it is the weirdest thing. well i can't do it consistantly anyway... has this ever happened to anyone else and any suggestions on what i can do, I'm able to do it like I said but nowhere near as well as i could a month or even 3 months ago.
thanks

For some odd reason when starting out I would have good and bad days where my ability to mix would seem to be better or worse than my average. Perhaps you were just having a bad day?
Though, if you haven't mixed for 3 weeks it is quite possible that your skills are just slipping. Try stepping up the practice a bit and your skills should return to/exceed your previous mark.
Maybe if you tweak your audio configuration it might make things easier. Try turning down the headphone monitor volume down a bit, or maybe positioning your speakers a differently.
Beyond that, get plenty of sleep.

Heehee, just relax...
...you might get so nervous when you're doing a mix tape, CD or MD that you only think about doing it right! This can affect your overall concentration and cause you to miss that planned jump-in or crossover, or allow you to realise that you're playing a helicopter mix when you're mixing in a tune.
I do a personal recording on MD every Friday evening before opening in a club, just to warm up. Keeps you in good form and it's also nice to listen to when you're sleeping...
Cosmo also remembers times, and one veeeery special time, when he had a few beers and played like god for five hours on a Saturday night. (Bet she was impressed!) Thing was...he wasn't even supposed to play that weekend!
